I was with my mate on his 125 today, keeping a slow pace, and I always keep my eye on him in my mirrors to make sure he's ok. (He's a newish rider doesn't have many miles under his belt).

I'm going over this country road near my house, then I see this car overtake him, then me. It's a shitty Nova full of little scrotes. Now I know my engine isn't fully up to temperature, but I just can't let it stand that they've just overtaken me. The guy is thrashing the hell out of it, I can hear his big fart can exhaust going off.

So I dropped a gear, and sped after them, overtaking them eventually, but I'm going pretty fast on this road, which has is very windy (both senses of the word). I let them overtake me once we get back to a built up area. (I don't speed in these areas).

Afterwards I just end up thinking to myself what was the point, I "beat" him, but I feel going at that sort of pace on a bike is a lot riskier than in a car, it's almost certain death if I cock up a little. It's just as soon as they overtook me I felt offended they even tried to "race" me.

Maybe I sound like a nob, but I'm alright really! Perhaps it's just my youth and immaturity, but I just can't help it, especially when it's little scrotes. Is anyone else like this?

no.
If I was the more experienced rider look after a new rider then it wouldn't matter. they are priority 1. No exceptions

On my own tis a slightly different matter.
Still sounds like you need to exercise some control over such impulses.

Figured he was alright on this particular road (been on it a few times today), went back to find him anyway afterwards. (He's not totally new, just new enough that I would worry if his headlights weren't behind me for a while).

So what about when you're on your own?

I'll leave it for others to bollock you...Did your inexperienced mate manage to keep up...

I suspect a decent percentage on here succumb to the 'evil wrist'. Bet even some of the oldtimers like abit of Roulette from time to time. (they don't mention it Wink )

Tip: If your competitive edge is very strong then chasing Novas will lead to trouble and boredom. Do what Ian Hutchinson (TT Winner) did and join a club. BTW he was a nob on the roads....and so was Shakey Byrne (Superbike Champ)

My mate commutes to work daily so he's maybe not as inexperienced as I said, but I still worry about mates who aren't as experienced as myself. I always tell him if I shoot off, I will always hang back when I get too far, also tell him not to try keep up with me if I do. (Not that he's likely to on an NS125).

I realise a Nova isn't much of a challenge, but you just can't let 'em think their bag of shite is something decent Wink I can just hear the tales of how they "ragged a biker" if I hadn't of shown 'em up Razz

Would very much enjoy a track day or something, unfortunately expendable income isn't high at the moment. I don't ride like a loony regularly, I was perfectly happy just trundling along at 45 until they turned up!

Roulette, eh? Interesting an apt phrase for it. I enjoy the adrenaline but then just think of the consequences afterwards.

Nope. I used to all the time, but now i can't be bothered. It pisses me off when cars drive an inch from the back of me trying to get me to race. I've had a few car drivers gloat that they've beaten me in a race, or that their car is nearly as fast as my bike etc, only i wasn't racing...

Who'd they be telling these tales to though? Only other worthless chav scum, and who cares what they think? All I'd care about is enjoying my ride and me and my mate staying safe Thumbs Up

i cant blame you, i would have rather died trying than admit defeat.

been almost summer like round here today so headed out on the ninja for a bit. Ended up with a scooby following me for a while and i could tell he wanted a bit of a play so i opened it up and sure enough he followed suit Very Happy .

It was pretty close in the corners but he was definately making a bit of ground but i managed to pull it back on the straight bits so was fairly even overall and i really enjoyed it. He gave me a little double pip on the horn when we parted ways aswell Thumbs Up

Its nice when you realise not all car drivers are nobs and some of them are out for the same reason you are and just want a bit of fun

Mug's game.

I find a nice big kill-switch backfire from a straight-piped 1600cc v-twin makes them shit themselves as they go for the original overtake.

If you whack the kill switch, will any bike backfire?

Yeah if it has carbs. If it has a stock exhaust you might not hear it though.

Couple weeks ago i was on a motorway, doing over a ton on a GSXR1000 when a mini cooper comes flying passed on the inside lane Shocked

Was going to give chase but he was driving pretty stupidly, in and out of the 3 lanes with a lot of traffic so didn't bother.... although was really surprised how fast those coopers are Question

OP, remind me, you're the guy who let his business go under and started signing on, after his mate's loaned-out computer got nicked and all your creditors got shafted up the starfish? It's just for my notes, I want to keep them up to date.

In response to your question, no, I'm an adult.

One and the same, though I don't really see how my previous topics have any relation to this thread. Remind me, are you the pedantic, petulant guy who rides Chinese takeaways? I'm only kidding, I love you really.

P.S. You can add to your notes I'm employed now! (So they can stuff the dole up their arse). Only 3 weeks and already got a job. Pretty good huh? Shall I start a Twitter just for you?

If its a K6 GSXR1000, you'll kill one in 3rd gear. Laughing

I had fun with a GTR on the way to Sonisphere... surprisingly empty motorway but he soon pissed off, was 150+ though... Laughing

Told the story before but it fits so will tell it again. Chav in a Type R Civic took exception to me filtering once as I was making my merry way to work and floored it off the lights. Needless to say it didnt have a chance but the poor chav refused to give up. I kept my speed at 40, as was the limit, and he overtook on the inside, cut an old lady up in front to try and get a little self respect back.

Next set of lights I casually filter up and who was just to my left? Same chav in the Civic and he was glaring at me. Just as the lights were about to change (you can see the cross direction lights turning red from where I was) I gave the poor little scroat a little wave and left him behind for the second time.

But on the whole, racing cars? Not worth it, there is not many cars that will keep up with the majority of big bikes on the road these days. Especially the ones driven by chavs.

I've had a few people try and race me off the line. I'm not stupid enough to do it mind, and just let them go for it. I love filtering passed someone who has made a big point of jumping off the line. Cracks me up every time.

Id generally not race a car whilst on the bike - well depends what you call racing, bit of dual carrieageway straight lining stuff just to 'compare' power, but only against 'real' performance cars - (not f@cking Novas Laughing )
But on the twisty stuff no way - same as I would never race a bike whilst in the car on the twisty stuff.
Now being goaded into racing by another bike, thats another story.......

I often get tempted by this but rarely react. I'm still a new rider and the adrenaline + extra speed is probably too much for me to handle... Laughing

If I'm riding with people I always try and make it clear that they should be riding to their own abilities - I'll stop at junctions etc for them to catch up if I'm ahead.

Similarly, if there's other vehicles involved I'll still ride to what I'm happy with. If that means the other vehicle gets away, so be it.

Considered that maybe they just enjoy accelerating hard?
