Hi everyone

Bought an rs 125 (123 1996) a wile back just got it running today after tinkering, replacing parts and had a full respray looking really good doesn't have an mot at the moment but i took it for a quick spin just to make sure everything was ok but its quite slow pulling off then boots it (standard no pv) then revs when moving im guessing that the clutch is going am i right?
I know it needs a new clutch cable as its fully stretched at the moment and not working how it should.
I've got a two spare clutches they came in a job lot but how can you tell if they are worn as they look the fine, and i don't want to change it all to find that they are worn as well if anyone can help or point me in the right direction would be a great help cheers j

hiya mate.iv got a 122 and when it was running you did have to give it some and slip the clutch to get going but i was told most 2 strokes are like that.i cant help you with the difference in looks but i can tel you its fairly easy to change.although my engine is out at the min but once you get the side casing off the clutch just slides off the spindle with ease.then its just a few bolts to seperate the plates from the basket.hope this helps a little

4000rpm was the usual pull away speed for me and speed picked up around 8000rpm.

That's BS.

No 2t should need clutch slippping to get going, that's sign's that there is a problem.

It's an RS, so i'm not surprised but have you tried replacing the cable itself first?

thats not bs at all.iv got a 4 stroke pitbike 125 and that you can pull off at low revs and it picks up straight away.i looked into this when i first bought the bike and i also thought the clutch was caput but EVERY single thread i found on "pulling off on a rs 125" all said the same thing, that you have to give it more revs then a 4 stroke.if i wanted to pull away fast i had to slip the clutch but if i wanted to pull away normal you still have to hold the clutch but not as bad!!!and if it was fucked it wouldn't have lasted aslong as it did

Nope it isn't BS, all of the two strokes I've owned need a little bit of clutch slip to get going. In fact, most of my four strokes do too...

I've had 2 RS's in the past & they were both the same for setting off aswell.

Hi

While generally you can just about get away with minimal clutch slip to move off with an RS125 (or other performance 2 strokes), doing so would probably mean moving off very slowly.

4k and slipping the clutch would be pretty much the min I would use on an RS (ie, maybe when running in or being quiet round town). If I wanted to make a fast getaway on the RS I would use 8000+ rpm and slip the clutch to keep the revs up there until going quick enough for the revs to be there without the clutch (somewhere over 20mph).

All the best

Keith
