Just a wee heads up for anyone that hasn't already realised that bennetts are a bunch of arseholes.

I took care to ensure that when I took out my policy with them that I chose the option for them NOT to automatically renew my insurance as I was aware that they did this at the time of taking out the policy.

My policy is due to run out and they have informed me that they:

"will renew this automatically for you to ensure that you're always covered".

What they really mean is:

"we don't think you remember that you opted not to automatically renew and we will do it anyway in a hope that you get lazy and just let us do it anyway."

Bennetts will help themselves to the money in your bank account against your wishes.

I hope I'm not the only customer you have permanently lost over this and your recent actions regarding modifications. Middle Finger Cool Middle Finger

I hope to have assisted anyone who is considering taking out a policy with bennetts. Thumbs Up

Well if Bennets have gone against you explicit instructions f'k em, I hate it when shit like that happens... but having said that I have been saved in me car insurance before now with this kind of commerical behaviour.
Now that I am married of course I have no need to worry, it is all sorted out, best quotes obtained, forms filled out... may not be the best reason to, but if you are not yet married... we all need a secretary after all Laughing

Gotta love Bennetts.

Took out a policy with them a few years ago (on spread payments)and I'd never encountered auto renew before.

Since I'm a half intelligent person, I knew when my policy expired, so I'd done some shopping around beforehand, in readiness; bike was off the road at the time, so I wasn't that fussed about renewing dead on time, until I came home from work one Saturday night, to a letter from a finance company, informing me that a new credit agreement and DD had been set up for me, which would end up costing me more than twice as much as I could get insured elsewhere.

The finance company were closed for the weekend, as were Bennetts, so I cancelled the DD online with my bank and called Bennetts first thing Monday, to cancel the policy, which I hadn't asked them for.

They told me it would cost me 50 quid to cancel (er, hello, 14 day cooling off period and, by the way, where was the reminder?!) and got very shitty when I refused to cough up.

Then they instantly passed my refused cancellation fee to a debt management company, who kept phoning me and sending me threatening letters.

Bennetts Motorcycle Insurance are wankers of the highest order and should be avoided at all costs.

I hope they rot in hell, the scummy bastards. Middle Finger

Aye they insurance brokers are arseholes.
Rolling Eyes

Not when they pay out for your silly mistakes.

They are not all that bad but like any service it's up to you to ensure you get the best value.

Keep receipts etc.

I've never been unable to recover cost from brokers/insurers when they fuck up.

Just a bit of agro that's all.

I've only ever known of people (myself included) having bad experiences with bennetts. Has anyone ever had a good experience with them where they actually went out of their way to be helpful?
Would anyone ever recommend them?

I had one occasion when one of the telesales people at Bennetts misinformed me on riding another bike not belonging to me.
I had a Comp. policy with Bennetts but the person was adamant I could not ride any other bikes.
I argued that I could ride any other bike not owned by me with Third party cover only.
In the end I had to buy another policy over the phone which was inconvenient and a bit embarrassing being made to look ike a tit in front of the bike seller.
I spoke to Bennetts later and was informed that I had been wrongly advised and I would receive a FULL refund for the money I paid (Ignoring the four days cover which I didn't need any way.)

The person I spoke to was very understanding and apologised for their errors.

I do not insure through Bennetts for my current bikes as they simply cannot offer me competitive quotes.
I use MCE who are MAGIC. (But human and can make mistakes too but easily corrected if you remain calm.)

And Yes I would recommend Bennetts as they were very good for three years I insured through them.

Have been insured through Bennetts in the past however when I last changed my bike had to change co as they wouldn't insure me on the new bike.

Went from an SRAD 750 to an RSV Mille (they wouldnt insure me on the RSV because I'm under the age of 30).

However even though they wouldnt insure me on the RSV they would have insured me on a TLR (are they not the same sort of bike then???)

Currently with Hastings but will go with whoever is cheapest when my renewal comes up.

If OP'd have done a search then the countless threads on the subject would have been shown.

Also, posting in a relevent thread like >Here< helps other n00bs get to the right place too. Thumbs Up

That's a fantastic idea Wink

Now, if you take my idea a little further, you could collate(*) all the threads relating to the insurance companies in these good/bad insurer threads. Oh and have you asked a mod nicely if they will consider making it a sticky yet? I did put that in my original post Thumbs Up

(*) by that I mean add links, to avoid copy pasting...

I think if you'd have researched just a llittle further maybe you would have found my post in that thread 'worst insurance' (where they're collated together) saying:

Quote:
I planned to combine the two, have a ranked system of the worst offenders because there's gonna be too many to poll and just listing isn't saying who's worst of the worst.

would an overall rating system (say, 3/10) for each company from each poster work?

Bearing in mind as it stands, I'm comparing the worst in here as well as the ones from the better insurers thread to give an accurate overall list respectively.

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 14 years, 44 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
