I recently put down a deposit on a 2001 cbr600f and was very happy with my choice but then a friend of mine who is s salesman at a honda dealership threw a spanner in the works and who knew i was looking for a bike rang me and said he had a 08 fazer s2 4000 miles for a few hundred quid more, i was originally looking for a fazer but while out looking at bikes i came across this mint 13000 mile cbr and and put the deposit down, i didnt want an out and out sports 600 as i have a few mini tours planned for this year and thought that the cbr would do the job great, so i went to look at the fazer and liked it very much so i trawled through the reviews and some good some not, so anyway i stuck with getting the cbr and but i still have that nagging feeling if i have made the right choice or not just mainly due to the age difference and milage and need reassurance thanks.

pointless worrying over spilt milk!...life's too short for that mate....wasted time & energy even thinking about it. Are you happy with your bike? If yes, then even more of a waste of time/energy worrying about it Wink If you don't like your bike sell it & get one you do like - it's not rocket science Thumbs Up

yeah ferret mate i see your point totally, thing is ive not yet collected the cbr and will only lose my 100 quid deposit if i go the fazer route, and yeah if i had the bike already it would be a different story.

Buy in haste repent at leisure..............

You wanted a Fazer but bought a CBR600 instead, even though you didn't want a 600 sportsbike. Now you want everyone to tell you that you've made the right decision?
It's your bike FFS, it doesn't matter what anybody here thinks. If you want the CBR then keep it, if you don't then sell it.

That year CBR is an excellent 'do it all' sports bike.

If I was in your situation and stuck with the CBR, then got a ride on a Fazer a year down the line, I reckon I'd be very happy with my choice.

You can fairly easily adapt the riding position of the CBR to be like the Fazer if that's an issue for you.
However, it'll be harder to give the Fazer the sporting ability of the CBR.

An 08 Fazer for a few hundred quid more than an 01 CBR? How much does a few hundred quid actually mean? If it's two or three, I'd take the hit of the £100 deposit and go for the 08 bike. If it's £500+ then probably not.

08 & 4000 miles is one hell of a lot more desirabe than 01 & 13000 miles unless it's been dropped or abused, especially when you come to sell it on.

£500 more than the cbr but both bikes in similar condition even tho the cbr is an 01 it is mint with fsh and mots to back up the mileage, and that was my thinking about resale value in a couple of yrs

I've been told by a friend who looked at a friend's newish fazer and said it was an absoloute dog to work on.
Thing with newer bikes is they're increasingly hard to work on because of all this attempted legislation and companies making more money out of having to do the work on the bike only they can do (and you don't want to be paying those prices!).
Another friend of mine has a CBR600f and he loves it, not to mention most things with Honda written on them are pretty bulletproof.

also taking this into consideration the bike has clearly been loved if it's in as good a condition as you say, another + in the box.
I'd say you made the right decision Smile

A good point - I was thinking purely of riding, not just financial value.

How much have you paid for the CBR? I'd imagine you've either payed over the odds for the CBR, or the fazer is going for a bargain price
/there's something wrong with it.

I found the fazer alot heavier than the CBR.

The fazer has very low mileage, has it actually had any yearly servicing done? The CBR will need a valve check at 16k. Take this into account.

My bike is at around 31900 miles, so coming up for it's second valve check. Didn't need any adjustment the first time. 14k is nothing Smile

I have a 2001 CBR600f, it is a great bike, I commute on mine and it does the job perfectly. Throw in some sunny sundays, trackdays and a bit of touring and it still does the job perfectly. It is a very practical sportsbike.

That said, a very clean one is only worth about £2300 tops, if someone is offering a nearly new fazer for near that I'd either be very surprised or say you overpaid for the CBR.

What attempted legislation?

I presume you mean proposed anti-tamper laws, which hasn't affected bikes yet.

Paid 2400 for the cbr and the fazer was up for 3195 but got them down to 2900 with a lot of persuasion .

Go have a test ride on a fazer, i'm guessing you would be glad you have the best intro into sports bikes v..

Whilst you may be out of a bit of cash, the bigger picture imo, is you've made the right choice, stop worrying. Naked's in bad weather get cold fast, and that's from me on a 125 at 70 mph not a fazer at 100 or more.

Wheres the pics and cash prices !! Twisted Evil

For a dealer sourced, FSH, low mileage CBR that isn't a bad price.
To put the mileage in perspective - there is a yank on CBRforum who put 253k miles on one touring the states, original engine without a rebuild and still going strong until he crashed it. He ended up changing the crankcases and reusing most of his original engine after the crash as all the components were still in good nick. Other parts wear out of course and we have a rather corrosive environment but they are rather hardy vehicles.

I'd stick with the CBR, £500 is a lot of money and the CBR is a fantastic bike, they hold their value too which evidently can't be said for the fazer.

Now I wouldn't. Yes, the CBR is a great bike, but its 7 years older and 9000 miles tireder than the Fazer. That Fazer is going to be worth a lot more in the long run.

This model CBR is seen as a bit of a classic 'do it all' bike. Don't think the Fazer will have that reputation. Could see the CBR holding value a fair bit better - the later models of the CBR-F after the 'F4i' actually get a lower spec.

most of the opinions received on this post are greatly appreciated and have been a big help with my decision so thank you all, i knew that if i went for the cbr it would look a bit out of date compared to the fazer but as long as i know it will do what i ask of it and hopefully be reliable for me ill b happy with the choice ive made in getting the cbr.
