Check the VIN with the DVLA, they should be able to re-issue for a fee. Wink

If it's a track bike it may never have been registered. Confused

If it has, unless you have something to prove it I still don't think you can register it again on the same number.

You will be able to re-register it however. If you can get proof of age (give the frame & engine numbers to the manufacturer) you can register it on an age-related plate, otherwise it will be a q-plate.

Nope, they won't. In theory they should be able to but actually their records are such a shambles that they just refuse every request rather than admit that they are not able to in some cases.

https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/RegisteringAVehicle/DG_4022316

You need a form V55/5 from the DVLA.

You'll need to insure it on the VIN number and get it MOT'd to apply too.

Fair, I missed the bit about it being a track bike, and assumed the V5 had been lost.

As said if it's a track bike it may never have even been registered.

I've bought a couple of track/race bikes with no V5 and provided it's on a blank frame/ the number's not been tampered with it's not usually a problem.

I didnt think it would be a problem when i bought the bike because all numbers are intact, And i could just fill in a V62 form and get a replacment V5 in my name, But you need to fill in the reg number on the form. If you dont they will send it back because there sooo Anal! Just gunna have a look at your link in a sec!

Just had a read. . . Thats for registering it for the first time?!?! Mine has numbers so it has clearly been registered before otherwise it would be a blank frame and engine with no numbers. . .. RRghh

So far...

I know its not stolen!

I have VIN And engine numbers!

I dont have V5

I dont know Reg number!

I guess i will give dvla a call (If i can find a phone number) And see what they suggest,

Wrong, just because it has a VIN doesn't mean it's been restigstered.

If it has a VIN, it could have been registered in anther country then exported and not re-registered since it was bought for use on track, or been declared a write off for whatever reason, and rebuilt purely for use on track.

Speak to the DVLA and see, but don't be surprised or concerned if it's never been registered in the UK.

For example, many USA spec 2006 onwards Yamaha R6's came the to the UK as race bikes when the dollar was weak, and they didn't have the added hassle of an EU spec immobiliser, thus making them much easier to convert to run without the need for a key. Thumbs Up

Why are you do hell bent on getting it road registered if you want to race it?

Provided the frame number hasn't been tampered with, it'll pass scrutineering.

What club?

Unless you're doing road stocks (IIRC) it doesn't need a daytime MOT at all.

Superstock 600 certainly doesn't.

Read it again, the link covers both first-time registration and re-registering. Its 2 different forms, V55/4 for first reg or V55/5 to re-register.

Yes you can, you can get an MOT on the VIN number, in fact t's the other way around, you can't register (or re-register) it without an MOT.......

Shouldn't be a problem to get an MOT on it, we've done several on unregistered bikes in the past (couple of imports and a q-plate that we wanted to put back on an age-related).

Aha, I know the class you mean, and you're right (must be called street stocks now)

May be worth looking at their Superstock 600, or Supersport 600 class and seeing you can save yourself some money by entering those, since you won't need the bike to be road registered for either of those, and you don't need to worry about a numberplate, and side stand. Thumbs Up

Check the times and see if they're radically different, if not I'd be inclined to do with the Superstocks, or supersports purely because it'll be less hassle.

These are the only classes they do, Im hoping to get some proper info when i do some more track days from people,
As there are alot of things i need to get sorted ie, Acu licence and membership

If you ask me its very complicated to get going!

One of my track bikes which is owned from new has frame and engine numbers - they're not really to do with the DVLA, but a serial number put on by the manufacturer, which the DVLA then makes use of.

I wrote a thread on ACU Licensing a few years back, should still be largely applicable. May well be worth you looking at the 600cc open class as well. Chuck some Dunlop slicks at it.

May we worth looking at other clubs that run a "proper" superstocks, or supersports class. You can also run in their new comer class although you'll be up against the thous as well. Check the times and see how they are compared to street stocks.

Also bear in mind that most superstocks/supersports classes specify "road legal" tyres, i.e. Supercorsas/Racetecs etc.

Depending on how much money you have it may well be worth picking up a minitwin for the NGRRC, and BMCRC championships, since they both run to the same rules.

BTW, may be worth checking with NGRRC, but last time I was at one of their meets there were a handful of bikes in both Streetstocks and 600cc open. Should just be case of unbolting the sidestand. Thumbs Up
