hmm I had it for a year from when i passed my test which was 10 - 7 -09.
so about 2 yeas ago I had it. will ask my bro if he can remember the mileage when I sold it. They do tend to sound a bit lumpy like a tractor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-wKkAxuusI&feature=related

or is that not the noise your on about?

Found this vid on my phone will see if I have a better one for sound as theres 2 bikes running in this one

I think the problem is the rear wheel has to touch the ground.

Sounds ok to me. Bit clattery which will be the primary chain but you can't adjust it.

It will quieten down a lot if you get the carbs balanced.

Sounds like the cam chain tensioner needs replacement. Also sounds like it is low on oil and/or coolant. They hold just short of 4 litres of oil so this has a massive sound deadening effect.

It doesn't have the usual 'whipple' exhaust note so there could be something up but hard to tell without looking at it.

The GPZ sounded a little like that when running on only one cylinder... although it was immediately very obvious because of a SERIOUS loss of power.

As already mentioned check the carbs and the CCT (which was a known problem with the GPZ - the predecessor of the ER5)

Sounds healthy enough to me, it just needs the carbs balancing then what I think is only clutch plate 'backlash' that you can hear will stop. Assuming it's had 'average' maintenance plus regular oil changes at no longer than recommended intervals it should be OK for loads more miles yet. Get the carbs sorted !.

LOL, them tyres must be rock hard.

I once ran out of oil so when on a long trip on the bike and decided as i could not get hold of motorcycle specific oil i would just have to use Golden Syrup.

Evidence from recent scientific study (and popular hear-say) agrees Golden Syrup is just as good as engine oil as a lubricant.

It is a liquid.
It comes in a can.
And it is the same colour as Castrol GTX.

Maybe its gone the other way and has too much oil in it? Pistons hitting on the collection in the sump, sounds like it could be hydraulicing.
