best anti-fog / anti-rain for the visor

with the MCN show coming up theres a lot of these on sale so I thought a pre warning was in order.

a few years back me and chris-red went to one and bought a few sticks of this gibs formula anti-glare stuff. basically its a little bottle of lies.

I dont know how they get it to work on the stand but 99% of the customer reviews (from the internet and various forums) suggest it doesnt work. a few say its fine but needs applying every other day.

so anyway, if anyone is planning on getting something,. there are much much better products available. so anyway onto the main point of the thread.

ive heard of various suggestions like, fairy liquid, soap, showing cream, shower gel. i just had a go with the gibs stuff, some shaving foam (for men ), and the stuff i always use on my car windscreen. suffice to say, the latter is the winner by a long shot. now to be fair, ive only just put it on the visor and havent been outside with it yet but the results from using it on the car? i rarely have to use the wipers until its noticeably worn off and the inside stays as good as fog free. sometimes (probably depending on how well you apply it), it will fog up a stupid amount the first time round but is then fine. the package does say to spray water on it before buffing it to a shine.

and you probably want to know what it is? rain x. i dont know who makes it but you can get it from halfords i think or online such as

ive been breathing heavily on the visor for the last few minutes like a pedo and its hasn't fogged up. I put it over the kettle and it did but lets be honest, how often to you go out on the bike and have 100degC steam blowing at your visor?

so anyway, add your comments on the best and worst stuff you have used and hopefully stop people buying the lies at the bike shows and car shows

I bought an anti fog application about 6 yrs ago at a Scottish Motor Show.
It is a small tub of white paste/grease which is tallow based.

It has to be rubbed in and it does work as a de-mister.

THE BUTT.

It leaves a greasey, smearey film that is impossible to see through in street lighting.
If anyone wants it they can have it.
Used once.

RainX is good, it's especially good this time of year when it helps keep the salted/gritted water from staying on the windows.

They actually do an anti-fog liquid as well, I was always getting in the van after a rain shower and it would immediately steam up. No problems with RainX applied.

However on the bottle it says don't use on plastics.

FWIW, Rain-X is supposedly not safe for use on plastics (I think it even says this on the bottle). Works well on windscreens though (got a bottle somewhere!).

I tried some stuff called RainCoat specifically for use on helmet visors. It comes in little sachet's and is like a waxy substance. You just squeeze out a pea sized blob and rub in into the visor with a little applicator pad thing that you wet first. When it dries and goes all hazy, just buff it off and job done. Works well and raindrops just flow off unless the droplets are tiny in which case they just build up to bigger blobs which then run off. I find after a week or so, it needs doing again.

the rain x stuff had nothing about no use on plastics but the anti fog did. this was off the internet., i didnt look at the bottle. what am i, intelligent??

I purchased some aquapel from egay a few weeks ago, had a sniff of it and damn i nearly passed out! stinks big time and dosen't work too well just left my visor smeary as hell, tried rain x thats not too bad.

I tried Pledge as suggested on here but TBH I was fairly underwhelmed by its performance in the rain. I use RainX on the car and it's fantastic, but I've avoided using it on my visor because I recall reading that it can act as a solvent and attack plastics.
The Raincoat product looks like it's worth a punt.

Bob heath visor spray is about the ONLY thing ( bar a pinlock ) to actually work for stopping the visor misting up.

I have a fog insert / mask and a knox maxi tube, visor up for most of the journey, where i deem ... can't be the only one who prefers this.

Although if i ever buy a decent helmet, pinlock it is, but i don't do many miles ..

Anyone commuting should get a pinlock, caus it's the only thing i hear menstioned that works.

I bought a tub of stuff called Shift-it Anti fog which needs to be applied about once a week but does the trick for me. Very easy to apply and nice and cheap. You can get it in most Hein Gericke shops, ebay etc. and Amazon.

Well the rain x stuff was actually a bit hit and miss for me today. Sometimes steamed up and sometimes didn't. I breathed on it every now and then to test it. I think its more to do with whether or not I was going fast as that makes a difference.

I might give that raincoat stuff a try but I'll wait till after the MCN and see whats there.

Yeah it didn't get rid of fog because thats not what its made for, I know thats what it does in the car.

So how well did it repel the water?

Mer Rainaway is safe on plastics and works well on visors.

It was the cheapest biggest bottle in halfords when I bought it two year ago, been using it both winters and barely any is gone. Every few days wash your visor in fairy liquid to remove the salt and road crap then apply the rainaway. That will do you until it gets salted up again. In the summer it lasts about a fortnight or until you clean your visor.

Used it on my car too but it made the wipers smeary and the GF hated it.
