PostPosted: 12:33 - 04 Jan 2012    Post subject: Insurance Auto-Renewal (Motorcycle Direct) Reply with quote

My insurance expires at the end of this month and I will finally be moving on to something bigger (Hoorah!) I've just spoken with some guy at my insurance, Motorcycle Direct about the auto-renewal. He tells me flat-out, definitely no auto-renew on this policy - or 'their' policies as I didn't even give him my Policy Number.

I don't really trust his word, and so I am wondering if anyone can clarify for me, whether you have or have not received auto-renewal from them?

Thanks

Anthony

Have you had your renewal paperwork through? If they were intending any auto renewal it would have to be clearly laid out in there. If there's no mention whatsoever of it, or if it clearly states that in order to renew you will need to contact them, send a cheque, or whatever but take action yourself to insure cover is maintained, then you can pretty much be certain that they're not going to do an auto renewal.

I haven't received anything from them at all since I initially got the paperwork. I will be reading through this again shortly to check it, and I've also emailed their customer service to get confirmation as something in writing.

While I've had no problems with them, I've seen people who have and wouldn't trust any insurer as far as I could throw them. That being said Motorcycle Direct were very helpful in recovering my bike when I came off it and when it randomly stopped working (spark plug), so this is no way a complaint about them.

I've had a policy with them before and I don't think it auto renewed. It might be worth ringing them when your renewal documentation comes through just to confirm this and then ask for them to send on your proof of no claims.

My insurers sent me a letter a few weeks before my policy ran out, informing me that if I wanted to renew, I would have to contact them and pay the quoted premium (ie - no auto-renewal).

Some insurers will auto-renew, some won't. But if they do, they have to contact via letter or phone before the policy expires, so expect a letter in the post at some point.

I presume you don't want to renew with your current insurers, so if they won't auto-renew the policy, just let the policy end and collect proof of your no-claims (if you haven't claimed on the policy).

I was insured with these previously. Mine did renew automatically - this was 3 years ago though.

If they have sent you a letter asking for payment, then it sounds like they are not going to renew automatically though.

If you don't want insurance with them any more, give them a call & say that you don't want to renew. That way you can get them to send details of your no claims at the same time.

Motorcycle Direct told me flat-out that they wouldn't sell on the (unique) email address that I provided them, and yet there it is, stinking up my spam folder.

They auto renewed my policy, but sent me paperwork before that saying that they would do so and what the new price is.

Emailed them to cancel, pretty easy really.
