Another mate lost

Just listening to the local radio, police have released the name of a local rider who was killed on tuesday morning in an accident involving his bike and a car. Turned out to be a mate of mine that i've known for about thirty years, very experienced and a good steady rider. Six months ago another long term mate, also very experienced and well known in the local biking community was killed in an accident in almost the exact same place. A third mate also died in a biking accident twelve months ago.
I'm beginning to think that maybe it's time to call it a day.

or you can do what i do when i lose my mates, i tattoo their initials onto me... granted not everyones cup of tea. but theres nothing to say you should stop riding.

perhaps grab a sharpie or get some small decals made of their initials and attach them to your bike, that way theyre always riding with you...

Thing is though not meaning to be insenstive if they had died in a car crash I bet you would not be thinking is it time to quit driving my car?

It's true that even steady riders get killed, but you increase your chances of survival hugely by riding cautiously, avoiding hazards etc.

This can take the fun out of it to some extent but it's a balance.

If you have a car aswell as a bike, not riding in the dark or in the wet would make owning a bike a lot safer for you.

I lost my mate to his bike and a van about 10 feet in front of me, didn't make me want to quit though.

What it did do was spur me on to do my test and become as good a rider as he was.

I know it might sound harsh, but death is a part of life. It happens to us all - at some point in our lives...it's something that is inevitable.

At least your friend enjoyed over 30 years of riding...what a pleasurable life he must have led. Be happy you were a part of his life, and that you knew each other due to having the same passion...and celebrate his life and don't get bogged down with the loss.
