Any reason Michael J Fox was your mechanic/cameraman?

Hi

Laughing Laughing

Its serious. Someones nicked a cylinder.

Neighbour had a Nova about 10 years ago which lost a load of power. I had a look and found that one rocker had snapped. He then admitted trying to change from 3rd to 4th at high revs and finding 2nd instead.

All the best

Keith

Seems to be a bit of a weakness in the Vaux engines, I've seen a few snapped cams over the years.
It;s normally down to poor maintenance, the oil galleries in the head get blocked or oil pressure drops and the cam seems the first to suffer.

Hi

I assume from the snapped cam cap bolt that it has a bent valve or 2 as well

All the best

We assumed the chain had snapped at first, but it actually fired up and idled, on 1 cylinder mind - told him to email me a pic when he got the engine opened up. This is not his first Vauxhall engine to be destroyed, there was another 2 litre lump that suffered death by attempting to combust a bolt Shocked Melted clean in the piston, might have a pic somewhere of that.

Hey,
Having a cam chain and 3 cylinders I'm guessing its the 1.0l (Probably pointing out the obvious lol)

I have a 1.0l Corsa and its been great: Good fuel economy and very very reliable. The oil in mine gets changed every 5k which possibly helps Thumbs Up

My mechanic did mention failure due to oil starvation being very common. The oil starvation being caused by lack of oil and filter changes leading to low oil pressure. As the cam chain tensioner is hydraulic i suspect this is why a lot of them rattle.

Cheers,
Shaun R.

Next week, trying to get Vauxhall to cover the cost of fixing their shoddy workmanship.

Good luck with that.

Good observation, that engine was hammered most of the time Very Happy The last thing it did before it died was an attempted chavvy wheelspin up a slippery bank. The oil was due a change I think, and the engine itself was quite tappy, definetly needed a bit of work but he's in the middle of installing 2 engines into other cars so I suppose he's just neglected his main form of transport, very clever of him Razz

edit: found the pics I was on about earlier:

Think that one was an old 2 litre engine he had shoe horned in his old car.
