I'm looking for a book, maybe 2 to read.

In honesty, the only 2 I've read in the last 3 years were Chris Moyle's Autobiography and Paulo Choelo's The Alchemist which was a great read.

I'm into 'real' stuff, but nothing sick and twisted.

I want to find something new but im a little stuck, not even sure what to look for.....

Read The Hobbit, then when the movies come out you'll be all set to lecture people at length about how the book was better than the film.
Or watch Game of thrones, then to find out what happens next you can start reading the books.

Well the only books that I really enjoyed were these below they aren't really real as to say but nothing stopping them happening in different ways;
SPR: lot of soldiers did fight in the war the fights were real.
Abomination: if you read it then you will realize its not that uncommon.
OM&M: many people were moving around during the time so could of happened.

Saving Private Ryan:
Ok now you know the story but the book gets you closer with the characters and makes you really feel for them when they are killed. Good imagination and this can blow you away. When I read it which was about 8years ago it actually made me really sad.
https://img1.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n5/n27984.jpg

Abomination:Extremely good story that I read in high school for a piece of coursework based around a family and a hidden secret only a short book but worth a read if you don't mind a good story.
https://img1.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n6/n34645.jpg

Of mice and men:
This is another book that I covered in English for coursework, story is set in America during the depression and follows two men. Don't want to go into too much detail just say there is a movie of this and it doesn't do it justice.

Best book I've read in years:

A Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin

I am reading it on my kindle. It's an epic tale of medieval. Just imagine The Hobbit
for grown ups without cute Bilbo Baggins but with much of action, sword fights,
tournaments, fire and even some dragons, instead.

Aldous Huxley - Island

I'm going to get a kindle sooner or later, and start hammering through Aldous Huxley books.

The guy is a god.

The Silmarrilion
The Book of unfinished tales!

Or try reading the bible from start to finish.

Is that anything to do with the economic global collapse?

I watched 'Margin Call' recently, really good film, set just before and focuses on the collapse of the American economy.

Did 'Of Mice and Men' thru school myself, was good.

This probably the best brief of the book:

Quote:
From the Back Cover
ECONOMIC HIT MEN are highly paid professionals who cheat countries round the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex and murder. They play a game as old as Empire but one that has taken on terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization.'

JOHN PERKINS should know - he was an economic hit man for an international consulting firm that worked to convince poorer countries to accept enormous development loans - and to make sure that such projects were contracted to U.S companies. Once these countries were saddled with huge debts, the American government would request their "pound of flesh" in favours, including access to natural resources, military co-operation and political support.

CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN is the story of one man's experiences inside the intrigue, greed, corruption and little-known government and corporate activities that the U.S. have been involved in since World War II. The message is clear, unless these clandestine activities are stopped, they will have dire consequences for our future.

'Perkins has ripped open the belly of the financial buccaneers. Here are the real-life details of international corporate skullduggery spun into a tale rivalling the darkest espionage thriller' Greg Palast, author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy

If you haven't done much reading and want a good read that is easy to get into then ' To Kill a Mocking Bird' is just the job. I know it is seen as namby and a school book, but it does make you think.

I enjoyed the Gervase Phinn books, a bit like James Herriot but as a school inspector.

I also liked the Paul O'Grady books and that sort of thing.

I'm not much of a reader tbh, I read Frankenstein 'cos it's just a classic and I couldn't put it down.

Have a look at 'The Historian' by Elizabeth Kostova. Bloody brilliant book IMO.

From Wiki :-

"The Historian interweaves the history and folklore of Vlad Ţepeş, a 15th-century prince of Wallachia known as "Vlad the Impaler", and his fictional equivalent Count Dracula together with the story of Paul, a professor; his 16-year-old daughter; and their quest for Vlad's tomb. The novel ties together three separate narratives using letters and oral accounts: that of Paul's mentor in the 1930s, that of Paul in the 1950s, and that of the narrator herself in the 1970s. The tale is told primarily from the perspective of Paul's daughter, who is never named."

Doesn't make it sound as good as it is, but I've read it twice now and as soon as I start reading it, it takes over everything. I lost my hardback copy, so I bought it on the kindle. Was only £4 something. Thumbs Up

I'm very tempted, but reading about what these tossers did to cripple the global economy and got away with it really winds me up, not sure I could read it..
