I went to work at McD's a couple years back, after my interiew they thought I was 'too enthusiastic' (im always energetic, cant help it)

Just now, messing about online I applied for a job at o2 intown..

Quote:
Thank you very much for taking the time to complete the world of O2 Advisors.

It looks like the role of Advisor at O2 is not quite right for you. You can try for another O2 Advisor role in 3 months.

The responses you gave suggest that you might not always focus enough on delivering a truly world class customer experience. At O2 we pride ourselves on engaging and delighting our customer, and therefore need our advisors to share this passion for customer experience. You may be more suitable for other positions within O2, please click below to look for other opporutities.

I don't know if this is good or bad. Neutral

Someone console me. Laughing

It's a shame a company based on communication (O2) can't even spell correctly. I'm slightly inebriated and even I spotted the schoolboy error.

No offense to anyone in the service of phone shops or high end clothing stores, however most of their employes are either up themselves or right pricks.

I've been turned away from one job because they asked me how I would be getting there told them motorcycle then they just said blatantly sorry then we can't offer you the job.

Others turn downs were over enthusiasm, wearing a suit and not enough experience (last one when I offered to volunteer at several local charity shops).

Well at least they pointed you at other o2 jobs..... Although if you were so suited to one of them. I would have expected them to offer you one of them....
So that comes across as a fob off.

Customer service is a funny job, many companies expect you to go the extra mile, yet have to stick to their procedures.

Given that I do this type of role. I find just being myself works well.... Thankfully my work is phone based so people can't see what I look like and how I act off the phone....

I guess look at it like acting. I am simply palying Jeckle and Hyde... Won't say which is which Laughing

Sounds like you need to tone down a bit for interviews. just don't lose the person though Thumbs Up

I can do literally any job you want to offer me... for a week or two.

As for the 'too enthusiastic'... it's Maccy D's... If you don't look like destitution or homelessness are the only things forcing you in there, they'll assume you're on the rob or a serial killer. Naturally.

As for the O2, what phone did you say you have? They probably only want fanboys. Turning up to work with a Nokia 5110 may upset them. You argue the pertinence, but if you want a job at Gamestation and only have a rotting N64 to play with...

Etc.

In my job ( gardening ), you never stop learning and as I get older, the less I like being told what to do. I know my job but I don't want a mangement role, anywhere. I get left alone at work, which suits me, but if I had a job with a BOSS in the true sense of the word, I think I would have to consider going self employed. Fucking hate Boss's.

On my return to Belfast for a few years when I was 26 I applied for a head chef job in a health center through a recruitment agency. They wanted someone to come in and sort their staff out. On viewing their rather large kitchen I could see what the problems were right away. 3 young chefs standing around with their hands in their pockets. Never a good sign in a kitchen.

Sat down for the 30 minutes or so answering the usual head cheffy type questions. They took apart my CV and were happy with the reasons for my changes in jobs etc.

A few days later I got a call from the agency saying I was unsuccessful, when I asked why I was told that my interview was fantastic, the only thing that stopped them hiring me was my age. They wanted someone at least 30 years old. So it seems I couldnt work for a health center making what amounted to glorified bar snacks.

It struck me as funny at the time because the Jobs I had before in England where I had been living were head chef in a bar/restaurant and head chef of a busy restaurant in Bath that sat over 120 people and was fully booked at the weekends for a couple of weeks in advance.

Go figure.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Two thumbs up for that. That's what I like best about my work - the freedom to tackle it however I please. Takes a lot of trust from the bosses but they have that and they get their returns.

"Truly world class customer experience"

"Passion for customer experience"

"Engaging and delighting our customer" (What? just the one of them?)

Phsycobabble management bullshit, it's a phone shop for fucks sake.

Phone shop, two months ago.
Me, Need phone, that one.
Them, Yes, here you are.
Me, Need contacts transfering.
Them, Yes, £6 charge.
Me, (feeling flush) ok.
Them, (hour later) Sorry, computer says no. That'll be £6.
Me, Fuck off.
Them. Sorry, but it's £6.
Me. For not doing it?
Them Yes.
Me. Double fuck off.

Not feeling world class, delighted, or even engaged.
And when I got home, no contacts in old phone, or new one, wiped the fucking lot they had.

Can you tell lies for absolutely no reason? If so try working for Orange.

Dec 18 I went into Orange shop in Birmingham Bullring and asked about an upgrade and was told I was due on Jan 2 so come back then. Went in on the second and was told that I could not upgrade in shop I would have to ring customer service. Went to shop on Birmingham New St they looked on the computer and said that I was not due an upgrade until May 2013 and should phone customer service. Went home and spent 20 mins listening to music on customer service hold until I got through to a human who said I am due upgrade on Feb 17 of this year and I should either go to a shop or phone back on Feb 17.

Sounds like a case of (all too common now) targets-driven culture. It's not worth the time of day for a phone salesman to spend time doing an upgrade when the target that he has to hit at all costs is for NEW contracts/connections - as is rammed down his throat regularly.

Or poor/non-existent management.

Or both of the above.

At my place I have two managers. The centre manager (who is fast becoming a nightmare) and an outreach manager who is lovely... the more the centre manager and me clash, the more I offer to do more outreach. Laughing

I can't do sales at all, probably because I find it hard to lie to people about things.

Nobody forces you to read you realise?

Anyhow it is quite relevant. I have salesmen lie to me constantly on the phone after Yell decided to sell my business details to various scummers. They always phone up and say can I speak to the owner please and go on and on about how their product is so great and cheaper than anybody elses.

Ah I see now, you're a territory manager, i.e. in sales too. No wonder you reacted badly to it.

IIRC you were thinking of going it alone some time ago:-
