Hi, I was just wondering are all Suzuki hyabusa's fuel injection or are there carberatta models. If there are carberetta models, what year did this happen?

Really need your help on this one guys!

Thanks

The earlier 'Busas were carbed. Upto the year 2000 I believe. After that the fuel inection model was introduced, along with the 186mph restriction.

AFAIK some 2000 models were carbed and some FI. This was the changeover year.

Is the bike accessible for viewing etc? A fuel-injected bike usually has an orange "FI" light amongst the cluster of idiot lights. The bike should also make a whirring noise when the ignition is switched on (not the engine).

I've got a 2001 model and that's fuel injected. I suppose the easiest way to identify a fuel injected hayabusa is theres an "FI" light on the right hand side of the clock, i'm told thats not present on the carb'ed model. Or you could just turn on the ignition and listen for a fuel pump.

All Hayabusas are Fuel Injected

'99 - '01 UK bikes have an external fuel pump, '02 UK bikes onwards have the pump in the tank. They all make a 'whirring noise' Mr. Green . We never got a true '01 in the UK, all Busas sold in '01 in the UK were 2000 models. Avoid '99 models if possible as they have quite a few problems, the most annoying of which is that the injector filters keep getting blocked with metal deposits from the pump. Ideally if he can afford it, he should get an '02 or later as all the problems are sorted. And don't get suckered into all 'the early ones were faster' bollox, you can de-restrict a later one ('02 onwards were 'restricted') for less than 10p in less than 5 minutes, the engine's identical and the later ones have 32 bit computers and lots of tweaks and refinements, much better bikes...

Carbs??!!?? Shocked Rolling Eyes

I believe that some people may be getting confused, because the Blackbird had some carbed and some injected models. The 'busa, as far as I am aware was always injected...

I have seen many tests where the ZX-12R has come second to the all mighty BUSA! but I would still prefer the ZX-12R just because it is more my style, still with that being said the BUSA is is one hot head turning MUMBO MACHINE! Twisted Evil

every magazine that has tested them head to head in the lasy tear or two has said the zx12 is faster but that's irrelevant

we have raced them head to head many times

the zx12r is normally faster in totally stock trim

and in a light state of tune (pipe, filters, map) my bike and the fastest busa were ridden back to back by the same rider (a busa owner) and he was faster on mine

backed up by another drag racer who had never ridden a zx12r who was 0.02mph slower than him but still 2mph faster than the fastest busa

Even though you appear to have started licking Cane Toads again, as I no longer have access to the results from all the Judgement Days, I won't start making false claims backed up by inaccurate date.

Instead I will just say, with all the dignity that I can muster.....

Did they all get recalled for the seat collapsing on to the back wheel a while back? They blamed the paniers of some b0ll0x, considering they manufactured the paniers to fit on the bike.

There were a few cases of the original Aluminium subframes breaking on '99 and '00 models, so from '01 ('02 in the UK) the rear subframe was made from steel. Not much weight difference and it's a retro-fit to earlier models if anyone is worried, you can even write a nice letter to Mr Suzuki and they may do it under warranty (many have been).
