Is using a track bike for road use a retarded idea?

Obviously it will be all legal etc with number plates and daytime MOT.

But is the actual idea itself stupid or is it quite commonly done?

Track bikes are cheaper because they've usually be ragged to hell! Gearbox repairs ain't cheap.

on the flip side they are also mostly well taken care of, more than most road bikes.

regular oil changes, new pads/sprockets/chains every few trackdays. often 2 or 3 times that of a road bike.

as long as they're up to temp. before they're ragged its all good. its what they're designed for after all.

as long as you have a good idea of its history/the person who's been using it then its not a prob. might be an idea to get some bolt on lights though just in case.

Did have one track (well race) bike on the road with a knackered gear box.
Otherwise been ok with others. Actually rode said bike for nine years on and off.
