Hi

Back of helmet has suffered a burn due to being to close to heat emitting instrument. Is the safety performance of the helmet compromised, need I replace it? It's my pillion helmet.

Thanks

Yes, without a doubt. You can't tell how badly the structure of the helmet has been affected, and you don't want your pillion to be the test pilot!

Yes, you ever heated up polystyrene? It doesn't last long, the important part of your lid is made of the stuff. They use hot wires to cut and shape it, it melts and shrinks. If the back of the lid is burnt then the inside is destroyed and the lid is junk, buy a new one. You can pick up brand new lids for £30 on online.

Strip the lining, have a look and a poke at the polystyrene (the bit that actually protects you), decide if you'd wear it.
