Honda MTX 125 spluttering

right so i got a Honda MTX 125 today and its a beauty little bike. the only nagging little fault is that when accelerating upto high speed it begins to splutter for some reason, bottom end speed fine as soon as you get into like 3rd gear and it starts to pull it begins to cough and splutter. does anybody know what might cure this? im thinking

De-coke exhaust / clean the carb out / clean air filter / and clean or change plug / clean fuel filter

Take out the powerband and put a pink one in, im 99% sure thats the problem as this happens a lot with them.

Use your head with this one sir.

Only happens at high rpm what does high rpm need?

at high rpm your bike will need more air and petrol.

Meaning its a problem between your fuel tank to the carbs.

As it happens in 3rd gear which would require more fuel at them speeds the problem would more than likely be down to fuel starvation/choke issues.

I would de coke the exhaust, clean air filter, clean carbs and change plugs anyway

this is a long shot but have seen it for myself ( ive seen a lot ) is g/box overfull and dumping g/oil into airbox causeing misfire??

the bike in question had the g/box filled to the TOP with oil by some yank mechanic ( he said he was a mechanic but by all his mistakes ( this one, fitted head minus dowels so water leak etc. etc. ) some mechanic.

i take it youve done your first string list? yes?

i did all what i listed i was going to do and also i noticed the inlet rubber on the carb was cracked so i sealed that up and it does seem to be better but still doesn't have as much top end as i like so i think im going to drop the gearbox oil and change it and also give it a fresh plug

If the inlet rubber is cracked it needs to be replaced. Even a pinhole will screw up the fuelling.

Ignore hahadumball, he's a massive waste of skin, but with any luck he'll ride into the front of a truck soon. Never, ever follow his advice.

take the exhaust port bolt out and chop it off down to the thread will shuft the power up the rev range
