 |
|
Had my exhaust on the Divvy go yesterday, right where the collector is, bike sounded just like a Harley...loll, anyway got a new stainless 4-1 to replace the 4-2 orignal thats been on for 17+ years so its lasted well. Went to Sandy Bike Spares in Bedford as they were advertising on ebay at £280 for a full stainless system, well good people sorted me out for £250 in pound notes. Still a lot of money for what they are though, anyway got the studs soaked with penertrating oil overnight as they are gonna be a git to get out.
at the dent in my wallet now though straight after Christmas, sort of kills the idea of having a bike as cheap transport though dont it. ____________________ Previously Known As A5tra_G

It depends on the material they are made out of and the complexity of the system I guess.
The Akrapovic system I have is a full system, so downpipes, pipe and endcan with carbon fibre end and it's all titanium, not too complex but there is a lot of welding on it. Brand new they sell for about £1200-£1500 I think. That's because of the complexity of cutting the right length pipes, welding it properly, downpipe shape and the actual material, titanium. If it was stainless steel no doubt it would be a lot cheaper.
Plus, there is the cost of RnD, no doubt they have to model them in 3D software first to get the exhaust gas flow right and such and such, so that must add to the cost.
That is my best guess anyway! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Im sorry to say ive heard bad things about sandy bike spares downpipes, but this is on cbr's.
They cause terrible flatspots in the midrange due to there lack of balance pipes.
I dunno if your bike has them or not, hopefully not.
Something to check though.

Definitely a factor but I can't see it being a primary factor in their prices. ____________________ "Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing."

i think on the "high end" names by the time it reaches consumer:
materials and labour = 50 -70% of what you actually pay. rest goes to brand name and distributors ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

Well it all went without a hitch, soaked in penertrating oil overnight, used some plactecine to make sort of cups to hold it and they cracked away without to much force. Got the new system on, just had to enlarge the rear bracket hole slightly to accomodate the bolt for the Givi Rack, very impressed with the look and sound. Its got a nice deep rumble, also seems to have smoothed the bike out a lot, old cans rattled quite a bit when I got them off so the baffles must have been shot. Thanks for all the suggestions folks.
I got a new shiny exhaust ____________________ Previously Known As A5tra_G

Well done that man.
The 'smoothing' may be due to the old exhaust being worn out. Exhausts 'muffle' sounds by absorbing the acoustic energy in the gasses. Plates which the sound bounces off inside the muffler wear and split so do not do the job they're supposed to do as well.
Happy biiking. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
