Hey all.

As some of you know, my friends and I have been doing up a 1997 GSXR SRAD, and we have just finished everything on it now. We went to the MOT centre earlier and they said we have to get an engine inspection report (because we changed the engine from a 750 to a 600) or something before it can be MOT'd? Now i've never heard of this but maybe some of you can help me out.

Will any bike MOT centre do it or is it fairly rare to come across somewhere that inspects engines? We are baffled as we've phoned up quite a few places and nobody seems to know.

Cheers in advance for your help guys Smile

Thumbs UpSmile

Sounds like bullshit to me, i would of thought you would just notify the dvla, perhaps have to give them the new engine number but thats about it. I've mot'd cars that have had bigger displacement engines and aslong as you input the car details correct theres no problem.

New one on me.

Don't waste time phoning round garages etc - that is not going to help you. Do a search on the VOSA website or give your local VOSA office a call for clarification. They are the people who set down the rules for testing.

EDIT: The only thing I can find is here:

Quote:
Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)
DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

So he might be refusing to test it because you haven't notified the DVLA of the engine change and perhaps the system has not allowed to the test to continue. You should update the log book.

Sadly, the DVLA will not update the logbook until one of the requirements listed has been fulfilled. I have had the experience; a phone call to the DVLA confirmed the requirements, as pertaining to any engine detail change on the logbook (and the only change I made was an engine swap, not a capacity change).

I have not sorted the matter out.

why did you tell the mot guy you had changed the engine!

I was under the impression that you have to declare any engine changes before you can MOT it.

Blimey - didn't realise toy told him.

Tell them nothing - just present the bike and let them test it. Even if they spot the engine swap they probably wouldn;t tell it was a different capacity.

Mind you a 600 is £20 a year cheaper to tax than a £750.

BULLSHIT!

I've had a few bikes MOT'd with DIFFERENT engines in and completely different engine numbers on the V5! Was anything said? NO. Why? Because as far as I'm aware it's not part of the MOT. They just check that it's safe for road use, they don't care that you've stuffed a different/larger engine in there.

I'd take it somewhere else. Update the numbers if you can really be arsed but expect the dvla to be wankers Laughing

Going same CC but different number is usually okay. But if you change the CC lower they will want a garage to prove it. Also If you go up a number they are usually okay (so ive been told, because of the extra tax on a larger cc most probably)
