my brother is being quite fiercely harrassed by an unknown person, by text message, been going on for a month now...

we have the phone number, could someone with knowledge of the subject of identifying numbers please give me whatever you can find out either a name or location or other identifying info of the contract holder etc?

rewarded with an epic karma bomb as this is important to me and my brother.

Why find him?

Go into your phone provider's shop and block the number.

Inform the police and keep the texts should anything happen.

Have you tried calling your provider to see if they can block the number or report it to the police they might be able to do something

So if it's really a problem then you'd go to the police and they'll sort it. Nobody can trace a persons phone number unless they work for the network (lose their job and face possible charges themselves) or they are a copper which again is risking their job, pretty obvious I would've thought.

Just call the number from a withheld phone.

Hello, I'm Geoff calling from O2. I understand you're due a free £10 credit, could you just confirm your name for me. And your address. Lovely. I have your number down as xxxxxxxx, any other numbers? Lovely, and do you have an email address? Good. Right, that's the identity checks done, you'll get a text message in the next 30 minutes confirming your free £10 top-up. Thank you for your time.

Then set her on fire.

PM me the number.

I'll send it a text from '02 customer services' or whatever network it is on telling them they've been reported and details of phone location have been passed to police.

Just to shit them up a bit. Maybe

Can't see them answering the withheld number and I can't dial out from my 0800 but a text from 02 could well do the trick

Then why does he care? Of course, it's unpossible to just delete them unread, laugh and get on with his life, right?

I'm not being unkind here but I too find it difficult to understand how anyone can be bullied/harassed by text unless they choose to let themselves be.

shes threatened to go to university disciplinary persons with accusations of rape and sexual assault... hence hes reading them to gauge whether shes actually going to do it...

any reason he doesnt change his number.

best bet is to change his number and only give it out to one person at a time, this way you can find out who is giving her the number

How many women has he slept with recently that were in a position to accuse him of rape? Make a list... start there.

If she's threatening him with this though, he needs to keep all the texts and go to the police ASAP.

Someone is guilty of harassment if they pursue a "course of conduct" of making unwanted contact with someone, which means on more than one occasion. These messages more than satisfy that, and I'd be deeply concerned that whoever is sending the texts is alleging sexual offences and making threats.

If I was your brother I would contact the police and make a complaint of harassment, if only to cover himself in case any allegations are made against him. If he's reported it and shown all the messages to the cops, it shows he's got nothing to hide.

Sometimes a phone call from the police to the person sending the texts does the trick, sometimes it needs to go further. Getting an incident number from the cops may also be enough to convince the phone network to block the number.

He also really needs to take a bit of responsibility to sort things out himself. The very least your brother needs to consider is changing his number. It's inconvenience for him, but it will stop the messages.

wel maybe this should remain his business too. and his service provider should oblidge if there is a genuine reason. so i am starting to smell a rat, either your not telling us the whole story, or he hasnt told you the whole story.

its either change the number, or cop shop, or the messages keep coming. if they were that bad he would have sorted it by now, maybe there is a pregnant girl in the mix here if hes bedded so many.

sorry man but i think you got all the advice he will need, hes gonna keep coming to you unless you put your foot down forcing him to grow a pair and stand up for himself, and either do the right thing by the kid that he may have (not knowing the whole story sucks), or going to the cop shop (in which case if was rape he may shoot himself in the foot - not saying your bro is a rapeist but some stuff can happen when your as drunk as most student spend their time being). or he can force the issue of his netwrok provider changing his number.

he has a choice, and only he can make it
