I'm surprised that much is left, 1st time I went to Mam Tor would be about 1980 and it looked like that then.
They'd been trying to patch up repeated landslip issues for decades and eventually decided to simply close it as there is a (narrow) alternative route nearby.

Seriously though that is awesome, some fallout shit there.
Bring on the apocalypse if the survivors have unmaintained roads to look forward to I say! Dance!

Cheers,

Went along part of that run on a ZZR1100 a couple of years back after finding the cavern, there are a few "interesting" places near Hathersage. It wasn't too grim to be honest and the most difficult part was turning to head back. Found an old drovers road on the Beacons after getting lost last year, now that was fun. Had the full hard luggage set on and the surface actually got so bad I turned up a farm drive thinking it was road (better condition). Reached the point where there was no tarmac, effectively greenlaning on mud as I couldn't physically turn around to head back given the slope and the surface. Surprisingly enough the bike was remarkably planted, it was awkward and by no means something I'd choose to do regularly but coped surprisingly well for a tourer on road tyres.

Best part of the run was passing two guys on fully decked out "Long way round" style BMWs who looked at me in utter disbelief as they went the other way Laughing

OP - thanks for reminding me Very Happy

I remember seeing this place in a mountain biking magazine about 10 years ago and thought it'd be cool to ride it. I just google mapped it to discover it's only 23 miles away from me!

The amnusing part was the slippage, credit for leaving that in Laughing

But, I don't see a front light on your co-riders bike, wasn't that a 'legal road - with cat's eyes and everything?' Wink

This interests me, 'daylight MOT'?.. Thinking I'm off to check this out..

Oh, and anytime you venture over York/Scarborough/Dales/Moors ways gimme a shout fella, Be good to meet another member and partake in some vlogging rides. Thumbs Up

EDIT; right, so a daylight MOT is for dual purpose bikes where they're used effectively used on clear days and have lights/mirrors taken off or blanked over.

It will have a normal MOT with an advisory of no lights fitted at time of test.

Rolling Eyes

Well if you want to be pedantic it has a V30 certificate with a V32 stating that the bike had no lights at the time of testing and should only be used during daylight hours.

But it's easier to simply say it has a daylight mot....

*shrug*
