So I've had a letter through the post today telling me that they've made a mistake on my licence and that;
DVLA wrote:

It appears that the '01' restriction (wears glasses/contact lenses to drive) is missing from some of the categories on the back of your photocard driving licence.

Which is wonderful, except that I have never worn glasses to drive or ride, and have never used them to do driving lessons, driving tests or the eyesight tests. I only mentioned to my examiner that I had my glasses with me as I was unsure if I was able to do the eyesight test without them; I was able to do it without them (with great ease) and so never used them. The only thing I use them for these days is using the PC, anything else and they make my eyes hurt.

Looking forward to phoning them tomorrow to see if they can put things right. Fingers crossed...

I would just don't mention it at all. They got the record wrong and ask them to prove it that its a requirement condition on you.

You have got to ask yourself, where did they get this information?!

I wouldn't bother phoning them, use their email contact facility instead. I actually got through to people who understood the law and could string a cogent sentence together. Shocked

Wasn't aware you could email them, doesn't give an address on the letter. Oh well, had to get up to phone the IPS anyways.

I explained that my licence was correct, the letter was wrong and that I don't need glasses. Woman on the phone said that it was likely a mistake and that I should send my licence in so they could correct it and take the 01 code off. I asked her why did I need to send it in, it doesn't have the 01 code on it. Had to repeat myself 3 times as she was struggling to get her head around this... In the end she told me to send in a photocopy of my card and paper counterpart and to write an explaination on the reply form so they can correct their computer system.

If you send them an email, they're on a PC. Therefore:

Other side of the coin about the DVLA. They have just done a GOOD job for me.

I wanted to find about the history of my bike - just idle curiosity really. Sure, you get the name of the previous owner on the V5 but I wanted to know who had owned it before that. I was aware that the "early days" of my bike history were a bit odd ie it is a BMW 650CS. When it went into Motorrad for a bit of work recently they told me that BMW records showed the bike was originally sold in the Netherlands, not UK, and was built in 2002 - DVLA records say 2004.

So, I wrote to DVLA and they said complete this form (really a declaration I will not misuse the data) and £5. Best £5 worth I have spent for a while.

Yesterday I received a significant package of document copies - stated by DVLA to be "all document we have on your bike". Gives me all the UK owners and a link to a transfer from Eire to UK

THANK YOU DVLA

Unfortunately I cannot get back to the name of the original purchaser in the Netherlands because the bike went from there to Eire and then to UK (Hull) with the same owner. The documents dealing with the original Netherlands owner are undoubtedly held by the equivalent of the DVLA in Eire and I am not sure how to get any info from them

I was amazed to get 3 replies which cited the relevant laws and answered the fairly complex question that I'd asked in a well thought out and clear manner. It wasn't the answer that I wanted and I still think they're wrong, but I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the answers.

Derp derp derp...

So after the phone call I actually looked at my licence and was surprised to see that it did infact have the code "01" next to my car entitlement, and also on my provisional categories on my paper counterpart. Balls.

Wrote a covering letter explaining the situation and sent the whole lot off to the DVLA.

Got my licence back on Friday, "01" codes gone, <25kW code gone, and points gone.

Thumbs Up Very Happy Result!

I used glasses on my car test, but not on my bike test. I have no codes on my licence.

Do they get this information from the examiner or when you fill in the application form for your licence?

Supposedly "you have told us at some point you rquire vision correction to drive".

I think they ask you on the form when you apply for your licence.

Is it a red one? They're re-issuing all the V5's as some naughty folk have been printing off their own ones in blue.

To expand a little on what Duke said;
Someone managed to steal a whole stack of blank, blue V5 forms.

Hence DVLA reissuing them on these new red forms. Mine came with a leaflet saying as much Smile

When I changed the address on my V5 they put me down as a new owner, took 4 phone calls and 3 reprints of the doc before they finally corrected their mistake. Morons.

Month or so ago I had a session SORNing a load of bikes. Could remember when they were SORNed until, and by the time I have typed in the details to find that at I am 3/4 of the way through to doing it anyway.

Had about an inch thick pile of documents come through earlier this week Laughing

All the best
