Ok, no laughing now.

I got an MZ ETZ 125

runs well, MOT till middle of next year, same with tax... £200

should serve me well as a first bike with some TLC.

anyone know anything about them? know where I can get the workshop manual that isn't in german? Rolling Eyes (My B grade GCSE in german doesn't cover such vocabulary as 'clutch plate' etc.)

I guess it'll be a bitch to get parts for. Downpipe is fairly corroded but this is a damn cheap first bike, and if I thrash it for 2 years and it dies, then I've lost £200 on two years motoring. *shrug*

Pictures to follow later on.

Stinkwheely's your man for this, 'cos he appears to have a fetish for dodgy european 2 strokes. I remember him mentioning a parts specialist for this kind of bike, who can get hold of pretty much anything you need, fast. But I was a bit pi$$ed, so I can't remember what they were called.

Right, the ETZ was developed from the TS in 1986, and is good for 60mph on the flat. They produced 11hp, and it should be reliable if you look after it, if not the fastest thing on two wheels. £200 sounds a dead good deal to me, I very nearly spent £400 on a mint 1990 Jawa 350, that had only covered 1,600 miles and had full MOT earlier this week, bloody good value for money these eastern bikes!

Enjoy it mate Thumbs Up

yeah, my dad pushed 60 out of it. He's got a VFR 800 and an old BMW boxer. You should have seen the smile on his face after he got off that thing, it was great.

The bike's east German, mz had major problems when the berlin wall came down, but this is made after that, or at least the plate says '94.

It's done 20k miles, I'll see if I can get ahold of stinkwheely.

Well MZ's are indestructable if looked after, If your looking for spares your best bets is burwin in London, there a specialist MZ spares dealer ( www.burwin.co.uk ) or BSA Regal who import parts from MZ-B in germany (there the ones who make spares for MZ now there no longer building 2 strokes) www.bsa-regal.co.uk.

Have fun on it but don't forget the 2 stroke oil, and if its a later auto-lube model add a cap full of 2 stroke into the petrol tank. Wink

Also there is an active owners club for MZ's, www.mzridersclub.co.uk , its well worth joining as they can help if you need parts and you can even get yourself an MZ T-Shirt Wink.

The previous owner 'didn't trust' the automatic 2 stroke thing.

so he said he 'kinda' premixed aswell...

I don't see why it shouldn't work? He said he had an old 50 where the auto mixer packed up and therefore seized, so now doesn't trust them.

Oh, and here are some photos

as you can see it's not going to win any prizes at the moment, but it's not bad.

Looks like a nice tidy bike and a bargain at £200. I had a MZ ETZ250 as a field bike and was good fun, parts crop up on ebay and go very cheap so it's worth keep checking on there every now and again.

I just done a search on there and there are quite a few bits for your bike and a haynes manual.

Most older MZ's were 2 stroke and the ETZ was no exception.

Single Cylinder 2 Stroke producing 10BHP, East German engineering at its finest! Razz

yeah single cylinder 2 stroke, produces a smidge over 10bhp.

didn't find the haynes manual for my model, found it for the saxon model.

there are a few rusty parts, it's had a tough life (mostly outdoors) the downpipe is in a pretty bad way, and the downpipe end of the silencer is going the same way.

some paint is coming off the headstock, the rack that the top box is on is quite rusty aswell. Nothing a wirebrush and some hammerite won't fix.

it runs very well though, I'd like to get a lockable petrol cap for it though, and a tachometer that actually works, and maybe replacing the speedo since it's cracked up.

all in all, I love my new bike.

Don't bother, cos you will spend a fortune on a new one or you will ALL later MZ's Speedo's will be cracked.

Its just a design fault cos the plastic is so thin, the vibrations from the engine crack it.

MZ's are great bikes. I've had one for several years and its still going strong. The battery doesnt recharge tho so I it needs recharging after every use. Oh and once I filled the engine oil too high and there was a huge explosion with oil coming out of every orifice(and leaks oil now). But still runs well.

I picked up a manual from a carboot for a couple of quid.

Like bikedudextrm said parts keep coming up on ebay, or there are a couple of sites where u can buy parts.

MZ have made/are making a comeback lately https://www.muz.de/

MZ forever!!
