Slowing Elecrtic Meter Down..Magnets?

Is it possible to slow an old style electic meter down with magnets?

Got an old style coin meter high up on the wall in the kitchen.
To get electricity we have to keep putting a same pound coin through but we drink electricity because we pay the landlord a set amount each month regardless of useage.

It gets annoying as we keep having to fill it up repeatedley and often find it will ping off in the night etc.

Sooo my question to the BCF bright sparks is will it work?

Apparently if you put a magnet either side of the turn wheel it will slow the revolutions down?
My thinking is that would it work though? because it would have to be at each side of the box so wouldnt be too close to the wheel so not sure how effective it would be.

If you have any ideas please share!

I had one of those once, a flat above a shop same deal, and it used to ping off all the time.

The wheel is ally to prevent magnets I think.

I pretty much just loaded it every couple of days but then again I don't use much!

Ask your landlord to have it replaced by the electricity board a old one like that they will most likey be looking to upgrade anyway, or if its not the buildings main incomer meter and is just for the flat so would be owned by him have it bypassed and removed or replaced.

Take the cash tray out and undo the brass nut that is locked by the sticky up bit of the cash tray.

Once loosened a bit you'll be able to turn the coin mech which changes the rate.
Get it right and 50p will almost fill it.

Haven't seen one of those for about fifteen years. Put a reasonable amount of money in, then you could do what I used to do

Drill a tiny hole in the plastic casing (assuming yours is plastic) in the bottom of the case, right under the wheel.

Slide a piece of fuse wire (iirc 5 amp) up through the hole until it pressed against the underside of the wheel, obviously this stops the wheel from turning and clocking up units of cost.

Hold the wire in place with a piece of blutak or whatever. You need to put some money in at some point otherwise it's game over.

Also need to find a way to cover the hole when the landlord comes to collect, you don't want him shining a torch underneath the casing and seeing a pinhole shaft of light shining through the viewing window.........do you.

From what you say the meter is not being read, you pay a fixed amount regardless of readings. Just disable the thing or bypass it.

Take the two outside wires and joint them in a Henley block.



But that is fraud.

Ask to have it changed by your local electricity board

just load the machine with your coin... if its not collecting the cash then take ten minutes a week to just 'fill' it up.

also if you are paying landlord a fixed rate then buy yourself several electric heaters and get them full blast to keep your flat nice and cosey.
