Hi all,
Just got myself a Bandit 6 headlight for my project (an excellent £20 from a friend Very Happy) and inside the dome cover theres a fair amount of surface rust.
I know it wouldnt be visible when its together, i just want to get rid of it.
Best methods?
ta
Mike

Rough it up and paint over it with hammerite. Not much point cleaning it off, any bare metal will just rust up again from any water that manages to get in.

I found that this worked well
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=1995967/
It may be a bit OTT for what you want to do but it's worth knowing about. Used it to do the fork brace / mudguard on the divvy.
All credit to Robby

I'm not sure about using electrolysis on a chromed part, at least not in a vaguely enclosed environment. Have heard that it can release nasty toxic gases.

My next experiment is going to be electrolysis in an acid bath.
