Hello all. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I recently purchased a Honda CG125. My first geared bike after a 50cc scooter.

I have been riding the bike for 4 weeks and started having problems with the gears sticking between 2nd and 3rd.

I try to change up from 2nd to 3rd but I am met with resistance and need to force it upwards two or 3 times to change up.

Sometime it works first time if press up extra hard.

I have no issues changing between any other gears.

I have no experience with mechanics except for working on my bicycle.

The only change I made was moving the Gear Change Lever height to fit my boots.

Thanks

Have you tried changing the gear lever back to see if it still does it?

Just a thought.

Maybe try with shoes rather than boots though

Is the lever secure, and is it fouling on anything on the engine?

Is your clutch cable tensioned correctly?

Also, If you haven't done an oil change, do one now. Get the mesh filter out as well and give it a clean. Don't trust any service history or "My mate Baz dunnit". It's only a litre of oil, it's not worth skimping on.

Servicing info.

I have found on my SV if the chain is not correctly tensioned and lubed it has an effect on the gears, strangely.
When my gears start to get clunky or sticky, like yours, (mines normally a pig to find neutral, have to force it up or sometimes it just doesn't go) I put some lube on the chain and check the tension and it sorts itself out, a tip a friend gave me.
Its strange, and i'm not entirely sure why it has such an effect on gear change, but it does. Might be worth checking on yours.

Mredhead, I'll need to try that on a monkey bike I'm trying to sort... The chain is flapping a bit and I can't find neutral while the bike is running.... hmmmm

It is just a bit of a stab in the dark, I can't put my finger on why it does it, i guess the chain's on its way out, I'm getting a new set soon so we'll see if it continues or not.
Good Luck, hope it comes in useful Smile

Did the previous owner tell you when the last oil change was? If unsure I would change the oil as that should make the lever a lot smoother.

I would also look at the gear change lever where it enter the engine, mine was covered in dried up oil and grease as it is directly under the sprocket cover. Once cleaning up and greasing the lever, it went into gear a lot easier. However this happened in all gears not just 2nd to 3rd

Thanks for the advice.

I have done an oil change and double checked that the gear lever arm is secure and correctly positioned.

I rode the bike yesterday and the gear got stuck only once when trying to change quickly.

I am going to keep an eye on my foot position during the gear change and see how it goes over the next few days...
