Agreed, heat and gentle leverage, not impact.
Sorry to hear that you went down. I've ridden through the last 2 winters, but am being a lot more cautious about taking the bike out this year after a black ice face plant provided a similar illustration that it only takes a few feet of slippery stuff to turn a motto of "CAREFUL NOW" into "I WAS BEING CAREFUL, WTF JUST HAPPENED"?
Anyway, have a search for "2012 spill counter" and get in there. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Thanks mate! Yeah it really put me off. I told people at work and they are like, 18 year old.. on a bike... must have been doing something stupid. I was travelling straight, at about 40.
I genuinely have no idea why I went down so quickly and am a bit scared to get back on the bike.
What happens if I do that while commuting to London? :/ |

theres a high chance you will get run over by a prius, wont matter though youll probably write the prius off just be careful, i hear ya with the age issue meaning you ride like a complete dick, don't get put off you will crash more!
If your put off now your going to get back on and be shitting yourself thinking what will happen instead of watching the road, you probably hit a bit of ice or diesel its fine ive done the same, wet roundabout at about 15mph in edinburgh i looked like a complete dick but i got back on and carried on my 1400 mile road ride. ____________________ GOOD GAME BODYGUARD: https://i.imgur.com/8WePGgf.jpg

As said mate, bit of ice what ever, and bang your down. If your riding through the winter it's a good idea to fit engine/crash bars, that way they take the damage and not the bike. Make sure your riding gear is also suitable.
Most of all don't let it put you of riding. Winter riding is a skill all of its own and you'll be a better rider for it. ____________________ XX XXXx
