2stroke mx smoke/clutch

Just a quick one but when I start my mx bike up for the 1st time it smokes like a bitch until I give it a god ride. Is this normal? Is it just the oil sitting low in tank/carb?

Also the crappy rubber link part between the exhaust and silencer pisses oil out. Is there a better way to link/seal that part. I put it in the correct place ad it just moves again

Oh and the last thing is pulling away isn't smooth on the clutch it just bites and goes. And when in gear with the clutch in it still pulls/bites a bit..

Just a few things I was wondering if it's normal as I'm sure my 125 didn't have this clutch goings on.

Not sure about the clutch but you may just need to adjust it or replace the plates.

With the smoking on startup, many 2 strokes do, don't worry about it.

With the oil leaking, you may be running it too rich. I would put the ratio of fuel/oil up a bit. What ratio are you running at? You may find that you need to take the exhaust off and clean it. Caustic soda works well, do a search and read a bit before doing it though.

You may find that even after cleaning your exhaust, oil may still leak a bit. I had this problem with my 50 that running it with too much oil had caused the wadding in the can to fill up with oil. Made it leak and really loud. Changed the wadding, cleaned the exhaust out and lessened the mixture and it was fine. With the joint, are you jubilee clipping to both sides of the join?

Ah, if its pre mix then there should be a mark it needs to line up with to be as it should. Hard to explain but just adjust the throttle cable to line it up. If it is already lined up or it makes no difference, then wait for someone more clued up than me to come along.

Just clean the front pipe as there could be oil sitting at the bottom of the expansion chamber or something. Then repack the silencer. That's what I would do anyway but try to get your oil mixture right first as you don't want to flood your freshly packed exhaust

With the clutch, it should have 2-3mm play at the lever end. On the engine end, I am not too sure. Never adjusted a clutch that end as mine has always been fine. If you have a manual it should tell you how to adjust it in there. If not, download one online or buy one.

Yeah dont worry about the clutch, should be in the powerbands anyway. Just try and adjust the oil. Although yiu dont need to, just means your using more. Unless your racing properly then I would be tempted to leave it.

Mix the oil into a jerry can with fuel.

I meant I had a pump on the oil bottle to measure the mix into the fuel.

Most MX strokers use around 33/1 mix, which i think works out about 153ml 2 stroke to 5L of Fuel. a bit of smoking is normal, heavier when started up, should clear to a light haze under acceleration

Right I'm with you now, knew id never seen a pump on a crosser before. What ratio are you running the bike at?

40:1 isn't too bad. A lot of people I know run either 40:1 or 50:1. Maybe try upping it to 45:1 but wouldn't have thought that would make it chuck out too much oil. If the bike seems okay, don't worry about it. I may be wrong but either check the exhaust isn't full of oil or maybe your rings are on their way out or crank seals but I wouldn't even bother checking either til someone comes along and seconds this.

But yeah, just ride it, it's probably not that bad anyway haha!

It all runs sweet. Just wanted t know if it was normal to smoke all the time on start up and then clear up when riding. Rings are fine not sure about crank seals.

Bike is a 250cc and I use it to thrash around lol. Enduro riding mainly. But do use the odd mx track.

Yeah its normal, just tighter the join with jubilee clips.
