Somehow I have managed to strain a muscle on my back/shoulder not entirely certain if its my lat or my trapezius.

Anyway I was just curious if I can still train as long as I train around the muscle that I have strained, I'm guessing not and I should probably leave it a few more days though its only burns when say putting on a coat it's not as serious as some strains I've had, already put ice and heat etc

Leave it for a few days, it wont do you any harm, and working around it will put un-necessary stress on other muscles.

If it hurts in your neck across to your shoulder over your shoulder blade its probably your trapezius.. If it hurts when you swing your arm like your doing front crawl.. its probs your lats dorsi. Either way, it aint gonna get better without some rest.. Thumbs Up

Depends on your form for training really. If you can really isolate muscles without tensing up the rest of your body then you'd be fine to train your lower body or the muscles opposing the strained one like bench pressing. Of course it would also depends on how bad the strain was...

Take a break until it heals.

You'll be surprised how much muscle will build during a break of a couple of weeks, if you've been training non-stop without enough breaks for a while.

4 months of solid training isn't a good idea. I did a similar thing when I started training years ago, stopped making any gains and was always sore. Then I dislocated my shoulder, had to rest for a few weeks (then take it very easy for another 3 months or so) and watched the muscle pile on.

Muscle tends to stay with you. Great for me, I can take 6 months off from the gym, then get back in there and get back up to size in a couple of weeks.
