Hi, I'm well hacked off, I failed my DAS test on Friday. I got impatient sitting behind a car and did an undertake approaching a roundabout....not allowed. Got marked as a serious error. Annoying thing is the examiner said he struggled to find anything else wrong and was a really good ride apart from the undertake! I'm so annoyed with myself. Got to wait for another 4 weeks for the next test and bike hire and carry on riding the SR with the horrid L plates. Anyone else done something stupid like that on test?

Don't worry about it really, most people don't pass first time. Is four weeks the waiting time for the DSA to do the test or for the school to fit you in to rent a bike?

Failed mine two times, first go I put my foot down on U turn, second time was obersvation at a junction or something along those lines, I didn't expect some guy to change lanes at the last minute without warning and I should have done. Having done your first actual try at a test now you know what they're wanting you to be doing which will make it easier next time. Thumbs Up

I think the 4 weeks is for the riding shool to have a bike available. The examiner said not to worry and come back in 10 days so I'm asuming that its the school.

I'm not especially worried about failing, its more frustrating because it was a stupid thing to do on test. I think it was my bad car driving habits coming through. I know I can and should of passed, and I guess it'll teach me a lesson to just stay cool on the next test and I should fly through. I just can't go an buy a lovely new shinny bike which can actually do the national speed limit for another four weeks now!

I was also more annoyed because the bloke I was also learning with passed and wasn't as good as me; he kept getting ticked off by the instructor, oh that and his endless stories at every instructor stop. Goodness he was like an old fish wife. That and he then gets to go an pickup his new z1000 with 144bhp and ride off home, I get to rid home on my 14bhp SR!

Loads of people do stupid things like that on tests. I failed my first try for overtaking on a blind bend, how stupids that!! It was all because i was nervous but the second time was much easier as i knew what was going to happen so was less nervous and passed Very Happy Doesnt make you feel any less hacked off at the minute though.

good luck next time

Well, you're allowed to take your test again after 2 weeks, there is normally a bit of a wait though, only way to do it sooner would be to see if any other local training schools can do bike rental sooner than that, and if they've got any tests booked sooner as well, you can book the test with the DSA yourself if you want to but training schools normally book some so they've got spaces to use.

Just got to remember to do everything exactly 100% perfect as you give them something to pick up on and they probably will. Have a read through this thread.

Z1000 isn't that wise a choice for first bike after passing your test, he might learn that the hard way. Confused

Pipnet, overtaking on blind corners isn't good anywhere, least of all on your test. Laughing

Ok, now you gits are making me nervous, my test is tomorrow at 1.33pm (what kind of time is that?!). I've got today to learn the last little bits, and then tomorrow morning to pick up some tips and do some mock tests, as you can imagine, I'm starting to get a little jumpy, esp as the weather is awful here.

Never mind bagpus. Its so hard to strike a balance between making good progress yet not doing anything stupid, esp while nervous.

Mister James, I was in your situation last week, still had u-turns and emergency stops to do the day before test. However if your generally comfortable riding the bike I'm sure you'll do them ok.

Unofficially on my suzuki gs500 I was told to only use the front brake on the emergency stop, as they are front heavy anyways and the risk of locking the rear wheel was to great to take while doing the test. So on the test I just kept my foot over the rear break but only really applied pressure to the front, worked a treat Thumbs Up

My test was at 1.33pm which is actually a good time. The sun his high in the sky so you won't have any problems with that. Better than at 3pm when the schools are kicking out and the mad mums are about.

Must say I find U-turns an absoluete doddle.

The latter part of my test it was bucketing down, just keep the speed down on remember to increase the gap between the car in front.

Keep cool and don't do anything stupid...unlike me Smile

Hi, Sorry to hear that Bagpuss. But at least you did well other then that. And on your next test just take your time. If the examinator thinks you should have gone and you don't then remember his only going to give you a minor mark, where as if you do go and your not meant to then thats a major Shocked .

Anyways good luck with your next test.
