Posting paint and thinners

Hi, how do I go about this? Only people that I can find that will carry the above are smaller firms through shiply etc. Problem is, the quotes ive been getting are for 'today only' etc which is no good as the paint (ebay item) doesn't end until Friday.

As paint and thinners are classed as dangerous goods, they come under the ADR regulations - something which DHL, FedEX et al avoid taking if they can!

Try Worldcourier, but they are a bit pricy! Best bet is to find a closer supplier.

FYI - It is illegal to send DGs and not declare their UN code, so the seller would be a bit daft if he did offer shipping, using an uncertified company, vehicle and driver!

I assume that these will be sent by road? Additional paperwork is required for air and sea, the company sending them is not responsible, the individual is. The fines can be severe and imprisonment for incorrectly packaged or labelled goods.

As an example scotia helicopters charge £450 to repackage and send on any DG, in addition they require 24 hours notice and the pilot can still refuse to carry. Road isnt as strict but it gives you an idea, unless this is a small amount taking it into limited quantities I think you will get prices better locally without carriage

Last year i bought some 2k paint and thinners on ebay and the shop sent it to me using standard royal mail.....

I asked a 3rd party business that deals with city link if i can post paint, including thinners, with them and they said yea. if this turns out to be false am i covered?

FedEx deliver my paint,lacquers and thinners and know what's in the boxes. Not fun though if the thinners or hardener leak

You need really need training to post them (yes I know)
As said falls under ADR regulations so you need to ship it in the correct box which is UN test, a 4G box IIRC for paint and thinners under UN1263, you then need to fill out a dangerous goods note saying what is in the box.
Also need to know whether you can ship X quantities of it in that box, if you overpack it needs to be classed as overpack.

Really it is a complete pita, and that is just a general idea.

Oh and don't forget to put the correct size labels on as well, especially if going abroad.
How much are you sending? You could send it in a limited quantity.
