With effect from today the Government has increased the difficulty of the theory test and is no longer publishing the questions used to stop people "memorising":

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2090399/Tougher-theory-test-drivers-stop-candidates-learning-answers-rote.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

I find this out after revising all last week for my theory which is on friday.

You'll be fine, it'll just be the same questions with slightly different wording.

Hopefully they won't ask you about the environmental benefits of trams. Rolling Eyes

Learn the things and understand them, not just by rote with no understanding what so ever.

When I did my theory I got a copy of the Highway Code (first time I'd ever read it TBH !) along with a DVD and kept reading it and doing the practice tests for 2 weeks solid - 4 or 5 tests a night !

Can't believe I actually got one question wrong !

The hazard perception tests weren't too bad either - and I got kicked out of one for clicking too often but still passed !

(looks pretty much the same as the 'old' one tbh)

The real buggers are questions like "what percentage of CO emissions are due to motor vehicles?", if they keep crap like that in the test then passing/failing can really be down to sheer luck.

If the EU wants to do something positive for a change with their bloody stupid directives then why don't they remove these politically/environmentally driven questions from the test? They do absolutely bugger all to test a riders competence and if they think getting us to remember this bullshit for half an hour is going to change the world then they're nuts.

The correct answers to these questions are:

Q - the environmental benefits of trams?
A - Who gives a shit.

Q - what percentage of CO emissions are due to motor vehicles?
A - Who gives a shit (even if scientists could actually agree on a figure).

Couldn't agree more. Hopefully this was also changed during the revision, I'll find out soon enough anyway

99% is common sense and the answers are rather obvious, its the hazard perception that is more of a cunt sometimes!

Well I passed it, just on the train back.

I'd say 90% of the questions were already published ones (I'd revised) so I don't even think its gone into effect get...

To be honest, it's not the questions that need changing, it's the hazard perception.

I passed my (Car) theory first time back in 2006, and I am a damn site better at reading the road and anticipating hazards now than I was then, yet I am borrowing a mates official DSA hazard perception dvd in preparation for my bike theory, and I'm getting 1 or 2/5 on most of the questions, and often getting 0.

I duno if that's just cos the DVD is dodgy, or if I'm clicking at the wrong time to get the points, but I know for sure if am better and safer on the road now than when I passed it as a learner driver.

I'd sooner see a shortened (and cheaper) test for those who already hold a full licence of some sort though, where you only have the MCQs for the relevant vehicle category, not having to do exactly the same hazard perception again, waste of time.

Same as me, couldn't get my bloody head round it at all.

You need to click AS SOON as the hazard is first spotted (car with hazards on), then AGAIN when the hazard becomes more of a hazard (car pulls out). The actual test explains it much more clearly than the practice DVD annoyingly. Just click a couple of times for each hazard state.

Keep trying with the DVD, it took me 3 or 4 sessions on it to get the "feel" for it (and I was getting really frustrated), but once you do you'll be getting 5's no problem.

And don't be afraid of clicking, if you click "excessivley" you will be penalized but I was clicking up to 15 times in some clips and it was all good.

Ahhh so click EVERY time you see any hazard (cyclist, car turning out at a side road, dog walking along the pavement etc) then click AGAIN when the hazard causes you to react.

That makes sense now. I was just clicking for when it causes me to react. Can't honestly remember how I did it for my car theory.

I clicked on every hazard - you gain no extra marks, but as long as you don't click too many times theres no harm.

Here's the page I read that finally made it clear for me, take a look if your still struggling:

Yeah that seems to help thanks.

Not sure if it's work buying the CD/DVD they mention though... sounds a lot better than the official DSA one, but extra monies I don't need to spend etc. At £31 the test is already expensive, for 30 minutes sat at a computer screen. Mod 1 isn't anywhere near that :-/
