Apart from your first three posts, every other post has been promoting this organisation.

The last time you promoted this radio show you had absolutely no public response.

Not surprised that people consider it spam personally.

It if had come from a generally active member of the community I'm sure it'd have got a different reception.

Sorry you feel this way. I have simply been helping people with disabilities the best I can. The interview on BikerFM was most emotional, inspirational, informative and above all - very successful. As a result of the broadcast The Bike Experience have gained a number of new supporters of the charity including broadcasters and Sidecar F2 team offering sidecar ride experiences to paralised riders at TBE. This is fantastic which is why I aimed to inform as many people as I could about tuning in. I am sorry that you felt at this time that you could not be part of this wonderful charity for bikers. Perhaps some time in the future maybe.

Regards.............Steve

Lots of people come on to this forum to try and "help others the best they can" - rather a lot of the time that involves keeping on advertising their own cause without being involved in the community.

Where did I say that I could, or could not be "part of" this organisation?

I checked it out when you initially posted a while ago. It seems a much better idea than trikes etc. However, as it is nowhere near me, there's no way I could reasonably be 'involved' if I had the time and inclination.

Sorry - having responded to my initial post i thought you were a site moderator. My mistake. Im not that sharp on how forums operate (as you know Im not here that often) . Keep your eyes peeled for other TBE stuff being posted on BCF as TBE may be visiting tracks all round the country as and when. We have guest instructors for TBE such as Simon Crafar and Mike Spike Edwards so might be at a track near you soon.
Have a good day
Steve

I am a site moderator, as it goes.

However I wasn't responding in an official capacity - and if I was, I what I said still stands I reckon - as it merely discussed other people's views and only offered my own view as a lack of surprise to other people's views.

This site is by and large self-moderated. The ratings system lets users know how other users feel about their posts, good or bad, without the need for posts discussing it.

Consider it like a pub.
First visit you introduce yourself and have a bit of a chat.
After a couple of visits, the next time you go around telling everyone about your organisation.
You get a couple of responses and do it again where only one person you don't know responds.
Then again, but no one responds.
Then yet again.

Can you see how the people in the pub might start to think you're not really part of their community and just there to promote your own organisation.
That you're basically just using it for free advertising.

People who have been accepted pushing such things generally start off with being active members of the community - then maybe a link in their signature and odd post for something people will actually be interested in, depending on the general reception.

Talan Skeels Piggins sounds like a character from a bad fantasy novel. You didn't say who he was or why anyone should care.

We get a lot of Worthy Cause posts here, there's a certain amount of fatigue about them, and just ejaculating "chaaaridy!" as you ride by is unlikely to win a lot of converts.

Try engaging with your audience. What's this all about and why will I feel better about myself for investing some time in it?

Hi Rog
Talan - 2003 Bike accident - paralised chest down - determination to live a life - taught himself to mono ski - after 7 years became paralympic skier - awesome!! After this decided he wanted to ride again on track. Tried - fell off - tried again - fell off - tried, tried tried and did it. He develped a sytem of simple mods to enable him to stay on the bike and control it. He then started the charity The Bike Experience to pass on this knowledge to other paralised riders to enable them to re-live their biking ambitions. I am supporting his charity as much as possible and help out at all the TBE days as Launch Crew assisting riders on and off bikes and getting them on track. Some of the guys coming back to biking havent been on bikes for over 30 years since their accidents. As an individual I get great satisfaction at knowing my efforts really change real peoples lives. From their experience with TBE the rider conquers more than just bike riding again, taking away with them hope and strength for all of lifes challenges. All thanks to Talan showing them the way.

Anybody can help TBE by the simplest of measures by just joining their FaceBook page. This helps them spread the word. People can join in by helping out at TBE days as Launch Crew. People can offer a little something by way of donation or sponsorship or offering some of their services discounted. Its all these things that keep TBE ticking along. Bikers helping bikers. I was just about to type their web address for you to look at - but wont for fear of spam rejection. perhaps look them up .co.uk. 2012 should be a huge success for TBE as more and more people are now coming forward with offers of help and involvement.

I note all your points on community relations before waving the charity flag. All noted. Was bad of me I know.

Thanks for reading this.

Steve

Why isn't he listed on the charity as either a contact or a trustee? There is an email address in his name, but that is just a Hotmail account.

Also too new to see what they are making financially, only been up since March last year so no way to see if they are a not for profit type affair.

Hi Pits
Thanks for your comments. I'll raise these points at the TBE AGM on 22 Feb. Shame you never heard the broadcast last night as a lot of this was explained. TBE started their first rider experiences in April 2011. They had been pledged funds from willing companies yet the funds never materialised and TBE 2011 struggled through on Talans own money, riders donations and voluntary workers. With the success of securing a £10k grant for TBE 2012 the charity managed to secure full charitable status. This now gives the charity more opportunities to raise funds. Up till now Talan and a few friends have been working on Web Sites and structure - something of which has been one learning curve after another. Things such as you have pointed out are all things that need addressing and tidying as TBE moves into its second year. A lot of the key people involved with the charity are all involved in Ski Business's so are absent at this time of year with their normal business duties. Their marketing and business know how is missed at this time in helping TBE move forwards. However snow doesnt stay snow for too long into the year and they will be back before too long for the TBE Season. Hope that helps a bit !! TBE is most definitely a not for profit organisation as all funds and proceeds go towards supplying bikes, parts, maintenance, fuel and track time for paralised riders. There is no-one on the payroll as such and everybody contributing to TBE is a volunteer including me, all others and Talan himself. Its a bikers helping bikers charity. Thats why I am in it !!!
Cheers for reading this
Steve
