Hey all, just introducing myself, you may think what a geekish thing to do, but hopefully i will be a regular poster here

im 16 i live in Hertfordshire, in a town called Watford, and last september, i got my first bike, well i say bike, its an Aprilia SR50 DITECH which is great, even if a little slow

my birthday is in june, and as soon as i can im looking to go for a bigger bike, **enter the NSR, obviously one of the main 125 contenders

unfortunately, as im new to bikes, and really know nothing about them at all, i figure talking to people who actually ride would be the best way to go, i have a lot of questions so i figure an introduction post is the best way to start it off

for starters could someone pls post some points about the RS125 vs MITO vs NSR, cos those seem to be the three main choices but the decision is next to impossible when knowing nothing about them

any thoughts.....

kind regards

Mito Vs RS Vs NSR's been done to death here, so here's the quick highlights...

They're about as reliable as each other (if looked after), about as quick as each other, and look nice. The NSR's easiest to derestict, as you don't have to buy extra stuff, which you do with the RS (UK RS's are missing a powervalve). The 'Priller has a fun LCD timer, and the Mito looks like a ducati. I chose an NSR becuse of the derestriction thing, and to my personal taste I reckon it's the nicest looking in the 2001/2 RWB paintjob. also at the time I thought that Aprilia's had shocking reliability, but that turns out to be a bit of a myth. the only other thing is that the NSR was a bit more pracitcal- it's got a proper pillion and a slightly more comfortable riding position for someone of my height. It's a little slower than the others but it's quick enough to amuse me and that's kind of the point...

Hi

To add to what RFT says, the RS is not the most comfortable bike around town. The handlebars are quite low. This is fine when you are on a fast road, but just kills your wrists round town. Think the Mito is the same on this. The NSR will be better in this way for low speed / town riding, the Aprilia better for higher speed riding. The Aprilia suspension is quite hard, and again works well on higher speed roads but tends to be a pain on bumpy roads.

I think the UK RS is supplied restricted but with the parts to convert it to full power included in the price but not supplied until you can provide proof of a full licence. Certainly was with both the AF1 Futura and the RS125 I have bought new.

RS pillion seat is no fun, but then a 125 is not exactly designed for 2 up riding.

All can be further tuned to increase performance and reduce engine life as much as you like.

Basically go and sit on them all, twiddle the switches and see which one suits you most. Performance wise the Mito and RS are about the same on top speed, but NSR a bit slower (derestricted), but the difference is around 5mph, 10mph max. How often will that be relevant to you?

All the best

Keith

yeah

personally i think the NSR is the better looking of the three

and i will most likely go for it, mainly because its a honda, which i understand to be one of the most reliable bike makers

both my parents drive honda cars, and they have a reputation for solid and durable products

only thing is im completely broke, but thats another problem , hehe

kind regards
