Battery Choices - Dynavolt?

Hey,

Need a battery for the bandit. A decent brand (yuasa, varta etc.) are about £40+ whereas I can getr a dynavolt one for £20. Normally I would get the more expensive one but the budget is tight as I am doing the whole bike and save pennies where I can.

So has anyone used Dynavolt before? What was it like?

Also, I'm probably doing more complex things now but I know batteries are quite sensitive to set up. I have a charger which has a trickle function so will it be relatively easy?

Please excuse the semi-hijack, but I was wondering if smart chargers like Accu-Mate are worth buying. I'm not sure what the point of them is but I know some people keep their battery on charge all the time.

Buy the charger on atm at lidl. £13. Its what I've bought as lots of people recommended it. It started the thursday before last though so there may not be any left...

Motobatt are made of win apparantly, not got one myself but if my battery ever goes a bit squiffy it will be replaced with one, not overly expensive either...

Although I have found Yuasa's and Varta's for £37... But there are Motobatt's for £38...

Decisions...

£32 is only a tenner more than I wanted to pay and they are good brands but £37 is pretty much £40. Are motobatt that much better?

I've just stuck a motobatt in the fazer, obviously can't tell a huge difference (although it starts, which is nice)

However the terminals are very useful. They're kind of U shaped with the thread in the top (rather than screwing into a square nut) and therefore much easier to use.

Can't picture what you mean about those terminals. Some of them have 4 though, which is handy.

The battery will be used quite a bit for the first time or two to get it started as the bike is empty of fuel, oil is all just in the sump and the bike hasn't been started for 3 years so will be used a fair bit as said.

I will go home with it and charge it and then trickle it but will that affect it greatly?

Motobatt's are supposed to offer about 20% more cranking power than a traditional 'maintenance' battery.

I know a fair few people who use them, and they seem to hold up to abuse i.e being parked up in the cold and not used for weeks on but still firing up when needed.

Cheap batteries are usually a false economy. As with condoms, crash helmets and 2 stroke oil, buy the best you can afford.

Think I'm gonna go with the Motobatt now, you bastards

Although I thought the battery was ytx9bs, some places are saying it is a ctx9bs, some places are saying they are the same battery...

But with motobatt, the ytx9bs is £37, the ctx9bs is £43+. If it is the ctx9bs then I'm gonna go for a yuasa or something cos I'm not spending nearly £50 on a battery when budget is tight. I would normally, but not now.

My motobatt came with a 2 year warranty which is nice, especially if you own a bike that likes to kill them with its reg/rec.

As for the mounting bolts and nuts,cut a suitable length of plastic tubing and insert it underneath the nut.The bolt will then catch the nut easier and any protuding part of the bolt will go into the tube.This also helps with bikes that have a problem with vibration.

It's an old subject I know but I bought a dyna volt batery for a gsxr1100 which then stood in the garage for a while, added acid charged and it lasted all of 3 weeks , contacted importers and manufactures without even a reply , if your going to buy a battery pay a little extra and buy a reputable make.
