Hi dudes, bassicly these are the 2 bikes I've shortlisted for my 1st bike... The bandit seems to have a really good rep for a 1st bike and looks like a good all rounder but i also really like the look of the cbr600 as it looks really sporty but am wondering if this would only be good as a fine weather bike? If anyone can give me some pointers that would be cool, are the cbrs comfortable to ride? I'm looking to pay about 2grand so am guessing i should be among for an 01 or 02 plate?

Have you checked the insurance on them both?

I can insure a bandit 600, but the insurance on the cbr 600? Bloody hell.

I suppose I'm going to say the Bandit Thumbs Up but as the last post said check out the insurance Embarassed , I'm not sure if I would like a sports bike for a commute but I am getting on a bit Sick , the bandit has got a good riding position and there are ways of making it even better (bar risers and the like). After getting off a Duke 999 onto a bandit I found it superb for all round riding Laughing , as a Bandit rider the stock Bandit is not excellent at any one thing but is good all round Thumbs Up . After getting mine in 2007 and doing a mere 24k I can only say I love every moment on it and found it to be comfy, being 6'2" I put bar risers and gel seat to make it even better Smile . Sorry for going on but it gives you a bit of a clue Rolling Eyes , if your young and don't mind laying over the tank and going like a rocket, the CBR would do the job and now is when the anti Bandit brigade will have there say Embarassed , good luck and safe riding.

Regards John

Hey John what's happening with Bandit Forum, I'm getting withdrawal.

Anyway I currently have both a bandit and a cbr600f.

IMHO totally different bikes the cbr is fun, fast and for ragging the
arse off. Never saw the point of sportsbikes before but since I've had the cbr it all makes sense. That said I find it a bit uncomfortable after a while but I am old and creaky.

However if I am commuting or touring or carrying anything then I'm taking the bandit. Its much more comfortable and less involving making it easier to ride over distance and I prefer it in heavy traffic.
Couldn't see myself touring on the cbr especially with all my camping stuff but other sportsbike riders may disagree as see enough of them loaded up in the summer.

If I could only have one I'd pick the bandit but if I was 20 years younger it would be the cbr.

Hope this helps Smile

checked the insurance and yeah looks like a cbr would be waaaay to much compared to the bandit, more than double actually! Im happy with getting a bandit then, I've got the local dealer on the lookout for one in my price range 1200-1500squid.... so it won't be very new but still be fun for my 1st bike Smile
I do really like hornets, I'm actually doing my DAS on one and it is really nice to ride and is very quick but they seem to be out my price range for a descent one.

Dont forget the Fazer.. always worth a look.
But if insurance is a key factor then the bandit would be the cheapest I think?.

And if you're gonna look at the Fazer, look at the Thundercat Wink I found it incredibly cheap to insure as a new rider Thumbs Up

The fazer is a thundercat engine in a pretty much naked bike, with some cooling fins chucked on to look pretty (on the older model at least. the new fazers are UGLY!) - little easier accessible for maintenance instead of the 'T'cats fairings.
Don't write the SV off (I know I have two, but still) they'd do just as good-a job, without the wind blast of the bandit. Same sort of insurance too, also they go bloody cheap, and for the bike you're getting it's a bloody good deal.
