Book Description

European cult bestseller, 15,000 sold in trade in UK. After the nuclear holocaust a new fear is born - underground...

Product Description

The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. The half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind. But the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory, the stuff of myth and legend. More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price. VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line. It was one of the Metro's best stations and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Polis, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.

This game is oldddd and didn't get very good reviews in terms of its playability and the fiddly controls from what I remember. Which is a shame as it had potential. The "hardcore" mode is meant to be very good though.

Thanks,

Jack Thumbs Up

Was on steam last year for 2.79 I think it was - for that price it's an enjoyable and atmospheric shooter. However I don't think I'd pay any more that a few quid for it.

I finally picked this up over Xmas as it was only a fiver.

It's disappointing, the game does so much so well - and then you meet the "enemies" / monster things that you're meant to spend the game fighting.

And then you put it down never to play it again.

I was expecting good things, seeing how good STALKER was on the PC - but Metro 2033 really misses the mark.

Would have been better for them just to port Call of Pripyat over from PC instead.

It was a pretty challenging game and i liked some of the original ideas in it. A friend of mine quit because it was too hard for him, he said he didn't like it but i know it was because it wasn't very forgiving.

The look of the game and the story kept me going. It isn't the most solid gameplay to be honest but then i've played much worse. I quite liked the parts you got outside for a bit and some of the stuff you fight throughout the game were quite well designed.
The AI isn't as slick as something like Halo but it's not awful...i enjoyed the survival, ammo was sparce at times and the gun play was enjoyable.
Overall i liked it, i didn't realise until too late that some decisions you make in the game, change the outcome. I'd be keen on a second installment.

Have to say I loved it! Thought it was a fantastic game,

The bits that made it cool was the gas mask. It was very real, after a while of wearing it it'd get condensation inside of it. Etc.

Definitely worth a go, can be picked up quite cheap nowadays.

It was alright, I got bored part way through though. I tried stalker a few times, both of them infact. I fopund they where a bit boring, it seemed to be a case of walking 100s of miles to kill some bad guys, get over loaded on loot then walk all the way back to return the quest get another one then kill some more bad guys.

I liked it up until the monsters.

why monsters? Whats wrong with shooting humans or aliens with some decent AI.

Been playing a fair amount of BF3 cant get enough of it just now.

Fucking love metro 2033, brilliant game with great immersion, the shittyness is they ported it wrong and you need something that runs of nuclear fussion to run the game at the highest settings.

I can't wait for the expansion.

This game is AWESOME!

While on the outside it may look like a cliché post apocalyptic Stalker knock off, it really isn't. With graphics that piss all over CoD, engaging combat and a brilliant storyline I think that it's one of the most underratted games of 2010.

However, as mentioned, a decent gaming rig is advised. To be honest though low settings still look alright Thumbs Up.

Just play it to the end - even if you think it is getting monotonous - and you'll see what I'm talking about.
