Non payment of Council tax!!

Amount owed (last instalment of council tax) £114 + £55 costs

Date of complaint (on summons) 24 January 2012. (summons received today btw)

Date final payment was actually due, 28th January 2012.

Date final payment was actually made (with bank statements to prove) 18th January 2012.

Cheeky fuckers. Part of me wants to take it to court, although I'm sure if I do It'll be some sort of stitch up and I'll end up with costs to pay or such.

Cheeky fuckers, (again). Just been trying to get hold of someone at Bradford council, but they must be asleep or cutting their toenails or on a break or something. Cheeky fuckers.

The amount of money this bunch of pillocks has thrown down the shitter in Bradford is a joke, they just spent £27,000,000 on a fucking pond outside the town hall, somewhere for the lazy twats to sit out of reach of the phones no doubt. What with that and the failed Westfield development, and the failed Rawson market project, and the failed Transport museum project, and the failed "interfaith" centre, and the failed Odsal "sporting village" project, and the ongoing demise of the Odeon cinema building.
One councillor jailed for manslaughter and still taking his expenses.
Another who lives in Pakistan still taking his expenses.
Two more jailed for electoral fraud.

My alert level has gone from "slightly peeved" right up to "hang on chaps, this just isn't on".

Take them to court, if you've got evidence you paid it then it will be a pretty open and shut case.

The councils and extortion parties rely on people being lazy and rolling over to pump their revenue streams massively.

Still proves it is just extortion, pay up or else, no different.... you can bet the guys who installed the pool and the westfield project by total coincidence happened to be mates with the councilors who decided upon it.

Well that's it for today anyway, they knock off at 4.30. I'll have to waste my valuable time trying again tomorrow.

meanwhile, here's a pic of the Westfield "innovative, iconic, inspirational" shopping centre development, and bear in mind the city centre shops were closed for demolition in 2005 Shocked Shocked

I wouldn't bother calling them, you'll want a record of correspondence.

If you're sure that you can show on the balance of probability that you paid up on time, then feel free to have some fun. Start by invoicing them for dealing with their error, and note that the costs will only go up if they're foolish enough to waste your time with a court appearance.

An invoice you say? Thinking

Quite tempted to have some fun with it, although alert levels have been downgraded now, due to liver and onions for tea.

Remember, worst thing you could do is not go so unless you receive written confirmation the case has been dropped, go.

Taking paperwork showing the payment was made six days before the summons was issued will almost certainly result in the case being dropped and someone at the council getting a flea in their ear from the court officials. If it goes before the magistrate, it will result in an even larger flea in the ear off the magistrate.

Isn't that usually "Multiple ticks, inserted anally" territory?

I might be wrong but at the start of a court case do you not have the right to be heard in a bigger higher court? Many don't risk it cus they can put harsher penalties on you.

If this is the case why bother with the magistrate? Go higher to a crown court or whatever is higher!

Why stop at The Crown Court? I'd be contacting the big guns at Strassburg if my local council accused me of non- payment of my council tax Wink

There neednt be any drama, just pop along to the office that deals with these things. Explain their mistake, and they will remedy the situation. Don't expect an apology, but it will just be a few minutes wait, followed by a minute explaining, and a couple of minutes, while they update the computer and remove the court date.

I had something like this that I sorted out today.

You may well not even need to go in, and just ring up, but I went in as it was easier to show them what I was sent.
