How other people treat your bike at home

After finding my dad had jammed in a metal shovel and planks of wood [with bent nails in them] between a wood panel and my bike's licence plate/rear tyre, I wondered how your bike suffered from horrendous shows of disrepect or perhaps even worship whilst in storage at 'home'. I'll start it off [and before anyone says, yes I need to move out! but life isn't that simple, yet.]

CBF125, I walked into the garage one evening to check it before it was exchanged for a bandit the next day. I find a large box with broken junk, metal urn, alarm clocks etc had fallen on the rear of my bike. Damage was a snapped indicator, thankfully the wires remained attached and it was meant to come off when force hits it. But I was a noob back then and thought it was buggered for the first 15 minutes.

Bandit 650, yep my next bike. Planks of wood rested across the seat and onto the dashboard. He said he thought the bike cover would stop it getting damaged....

B-king, I keep finding items jammed in between it and the wall. Such as spades, crowbars, tripods. Leaves nails across the driveway. I once caught a paint tin he knocked off with a ladder and the paint tin would have hit the tank!

The worst one has to be when I walked in as heard the circular saw going off in the garage, thinking of dust I decided to move my bike outside the garage. I walked in to find he had taken the cover off and was using it to 'catch' shavings and dust under the cicular saw table. My bike was utterly covered in wood dust. Cue 'Y U??!?!?!??!?!? Y?!?!!?!?' moment. Chain had to be cleaned and reoiled... Sod knows if all the dust left the air intakes etc when took it out.

This didn't only happen to me though, my brother had a hayabusa and of course found a heavy duty ladder resting on the clutch handle. It wasn't long when he moved out funnily enough!

My Dad has bikes and mum isn't allowed in the garage, so generally pretty good, although he did drop a florescent light tube on my speed four Evil or Very Mad

Usually, its only ever in the garage if its under going repairs. Currently, anything can happen to the GSXR and it wont bother me. Think there is a welder sitting on the tank Thinking

There is definitely air compressor gear hanging over the rear.

Mine gets treated fine as it's just me that touches it. The wife doesn't go anywhere near it, and the garage is big enough now that she has no cause to.

However, when the garage was smaller she managed to reverse my car into my bike, causing damage to both. Then 'forgot' to tell me so I discovered it for myself.

Bitch makes good patio base.

I've thankfully only owned bikes since I moved out as I started riding at 19 and by then I was at uni. First year I only had a shed but I at least had a padlock on it that only I had the key to. Now I live with another biker who is very understanding of my large piles of RXS bits, and half painted frame hanging from the ceiling.

Now I'm moving again when my contract ends in July to live with my girlfriend. I hope we can find a place with a garage...couldn't bear to leave a bike on the roadside :'(

Dad had quite a few bikes in the past and he tries to be respectful of my property, but it is more or less his garage so when wood needs sawing, new coal bags or the bin needs taking out then I find its a case of musical chairs the next time I'm in the garage and my MZ looks a nice shade of pine.

My mam though only goes in for the freezer, the number of times she's used my MZ as a table to rest stuff on whilst rumaging through the freezer and forgets (found a semi frozen leg of lamb wedged between the forks one morning ffs!)

No bikes been knocked over or damaged really so I'm alright with things as they are.

My dad reversed into my bike, knocked it over onto my brother's moped which thankfully 'caught' it and stopped it hitting the floor, no damage to either so he was very lucky lol!

The problem with bikes (or rather, the problem with some people when it comes to bikes) is that they're so accessible. Like a push bike. If cars had no roofs and no handbrakes they might suffer similar treatment to an extent, though not as much due to one of the mysteries of the universe... Shocked

Luckily I've never had to deal with this sort of behaviour from anyone at home, but there was one occasion with the 125 I was riding. I constructed a small shelter with corrugated roof to keep the rain off my bike, and a ground anchor to lock a chain to. I got up one morning to find a certain builder who was doing some work on our house had decided to move my bike (which at the time wasn't locked with the chain) so he could use the shelter for cutting some wood. I didn't say anything much at the time, but made sure to use the chain since then, so that the bike couldn't be moved. And yes, my bike was covered in sawdust.

We don't have a garage at home, so there's not much chance for 'things' to be placed on or around my bike right now, but if there were I wouldn't stand for it. If it were a car having stuff stacked on it what would happen? It should be treated the same imo.

Also reminds me of a post someone else made a while ago. Can't remember if it was stinkwheel or pete?? They came out of a shop and got back to their bike to find a parent had plonked their child on it! What sums it up is when they said something like "can I go and sit on your car?"...

No problems here, my dad's a former biker so he leaves it well alone unless im working on it then he comes to see if he can lend a hand Cool

He can't get his head round why I need a bike with more than twice the engine his had though (Honda 305 superdream -Vs- Daytona 650)

Used to keep my bikes in my dads garage till l built my shed only got my winter hack VFR750 in there now but in the past l,ve had silver spray paint specks all over the R100GSPD when he decided to spray paint something the other end of the garage with the back door open so airborne paint particles went everywhere.
