I know what you mean. I'm getting fed up now.

Since 1988 I 've been looking for a Ferrari F40 for £20 but I'm not giving up.

If I have to go to auction and spend the realistic asking price of £400k for a nice example I'll not be happy.

Sorry, but you asked for the sarcasm...

Finding a 'decent' 125 at 'sensible' money is just NOIT realistic; happens to only a lucky few, and you are only JUST in the bargain basement; chances of finding something in decent nick is low, and theres lots of folk chasing the same thing.

WE CANT HELP YOU

Its down to pounding shoe-leather, hunting out the better bikes in your budget, and or finding the extra dosh.

Dont loose heart, though, it's worth it in the long run; you'll probably end up with somethin a LOT less than you'd like, but it'll be YOURS and it'll be FUN, and you'll LOVE IT regardless.

Just wont happen at the press of a button.

Stop trawling e-bay and hoping; get pedelling round newsagents looking at the cards in the windows; asking around, looking for bikes parked outside peoples houses with 'For-Sale' signs on them; do some leg work, and you can ssriousely improve your chances of finding something 'better'.

Non-stick michael speaks the truth. I got my beautiful (read crap-heap) of a triumph by ringing round traders in a 60mile radius asking what they would sell me for £700. Eventually I got through to a garage who had taken my bike in as part ex. Sold as seen for 750notes. hundred quid or so later and she flew through an MOT and I was in two wheeled bliss.

Try it on with them and wave cash under their nose. You'll be amazed how letting them smell the cash gets them motivated.

Most importantly though, Like mike said... You'll have to do it yourself. People here will help, but they won't wipe your backside for you!

I got mine for £800 Dance!

Seriously though, you've just got to get lucky and keep your eyes peeled for something good. You may struggle though as 125s are in high demand.

I had a absolutely perfect 125 for less than £400 on the road. Not a thing wrong.

The thing was that I brought it as a mossy special (read as running only by the will of God.) I then spent a bit of time and effort understanding it and bringing it up to a standard that was good enough to give to my son.

Minimal cost, just a fair few hours of getting dirty, burnt, cut and annoyed. Worth it in the long run.

Paddy has some great links there for Ebay, just a shame they are all on the other side of the Country! Rolling Eyes Still, he does make a good point though.

Try this, I'm not sure if the link will work properly but it's a link to Ebay listings for 75cc - 224cc bikes up to £1100 within 25 miles of Warrington Bank Quay Station:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Motorcycles-Scooters-/422/i.html?LH_ItemCondition=3000&LH_PrefLoc=1&LH_Distance=WA11LS..25&Capacity%2520%2528cc%2529=75%2520to%2520224%2520cc%7C!&Vehicle%2520Type=Chopper%252F%2520Cruiser%7CEnduro%252F%2520Supermoto%2520%2528road%2520legal%2529%7CMotorcross%2520%2528off%252Droad%2529%7CSports%2520Touring%7CSuper%2520Sport%7CTourer%7C!&_dmpt=UK_Motorcycles&_ds=1&_fln=1&_fpos=WA1%201LS&_fspt=1&_mdo=Cars-Parts-Vehicles&_mspp=&_pcats=9800&_sadis=25&_sc=1&_sop=7&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m1539&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo=0&_udhi=1%2C100

Note: If you want to take the test on your own bike, it must be a 125cc. 100cc bikes are not allowed.

If you want to buy a bike on Ebay it's best to actually go and see the bike to inspect it before you commit to bidding, plus a lot of sellers will tell you the price they are willing to sell it for there and then; they'll sell you the bike and cancel the Ebay auction. It's damned annoying when you've been bidding on a bike and you think you are about to bag a bargain, but that's how it is.

There are some guides scattered around the internet about how to inspect a motorcycle, there's probably one on this forum somewhere too. I don't know much but what I know to look for is to check for pitting on the forks, loose back wheel and general signs of bodgery. The end of the exhaust should be a nutty brown color, not white or sooty/oily black - it's the same as checking the spark plug. If the seller seems dodgy then the bike is likely to be dodgy so if you don't like him/her then walk away.

Also try GumTree, you'll have to wait longer to find a bike on GumTree but it's more reliable than Ebay and prices tend to be lower. https://www.gumtree.com/motorbikes-scooters/manchester
Ebay can be great sometimes but people tend to overbid which pushes the prices up. That said, I have also seen a couple of really nice bikes go for very low prices.

Also a very good idea. Thumbs Up
I don't think you'll see many at this time of year but a lot of people have got old bikes gathering dust in the shed that they just want to get shot of. If I were you I'd look for a running bike that has a couple of months MOT on it and just needs a bit of cosmetic tidying up and maybe £100 spending on it to bring it up to standard.

i felt like that too, so many times, living in the sticks makes it even harder to find bikes!
luckily i had a mate with a van i could borrow for the day.

you will just have to be patient though, dont rush into buying what could be the wrong bike just because you want one NOW! Mad

i did that and learnt the hard way, and travelled 200+ miles AND ended up with i bike i almost instantly regretted. Embarassed
within a week 2 nice jap bikes both within my meagre budget of £800 came up locally. Sick

as much as i am saying be patient, i didnt manage it and went for a one year old ybr125 for £1400, but after buying 2 duffers to start with i decided an £800 bike was a false economy (or was i just too impatient?).

good luck finding your 1st bike, keep your eyes peeled and not just on ebay! Very Happy Thumbs Up

Sheesh, we're not here for your beck and call... get a grip and realise if you post on the forum - you need to give people time to read your post and ponder your request.

Not spit the dummy 'cos you got no response.

I can't believe the offspring some parents are squeezing out...remember respect is earned not given automatically. You'll should remember that before you post your next response. Rolling Eyes Idea

Teen-age angst, Clanger; frustrated by the costs, parents, and everything holding him back from doing what he wants; & in this instance, dissolusion of TRYING to do it all 'sensibly', but getting no-where fast. His first prob was getting Parents on board to get a second hand Jap, rather than the Lexmoto THEY thought was 'better' becouse it was in budget and brand new; but NOT able to just hit the BIN Button for a YBR, becouse they are a good £500 more expensive and less plentiful.

Chris; PATIENCE.

I had hippy parents who wouldn't just say 'No'. I was NINE when I wanted a motorbike and rather than being told, "You cant have one till your 16" I was told I needed to go away and find out 'all about bikes' and what I needed to get one.... hoping I would work it out for myself....

Month or so later I had discovered School-Boy Scrambles... and they STILL didn't say 'no', just told me to find out all about, and to think about things like how I would afford the bike; how I would run the bike, where I would keep it; where I would use it etc etc etc, expecting me to come to the conclusion I COULDN'T have a bike at ten years old..... all it di dwas tell me I COULD... it was just expensive....

By the time I was 14, I hadn't given up on the idea, and five years mowing lawns, doing odd jobs, helping the Milkman, going down and cleaning out the grain silo's etc... I HAD the money, and was STILL being 'bounced'... usually when I asked to use the 'phone to call an add.... so after major debate covering old ground, by the time I had the 'OK' to use the 'phone...... bike in teh add had been sold!

Two months after my 15th Birthday, I nailed it; calling an add in my school lunch break from pay phone outside school, after sneaking past the prefects...... a little bit of bullying my Uncle to give me a lift to go look at it, then having HIM negotiate a deal so I ALMOST lost it, another phone call next morning, and I had MY bike......

And I STILL have it......

Point is, you have a lot going for you; you have a 'tight' but realistic budget in your pocket. You are looking at the 'right' kind of bikes; but MOST importantly, you have your folks BEHIND you actually supporting you... maybe not as much as you'd LIKE, but they ARE helping you, that's a plus, over many that don't get ANY help, or me, where they were actively trying to sabotage me!

And we all know teen-age time scales; three months is to you almost like a YEAR is to some-one my age! ENJOY IT! When you get to my age; blink and a year dissapears! DONT wish your life away!

MEanwhile DONT RUSH.... sure way to get hurt on a bike; take your time, its the one thing you have in your favour. talk through the 'problem' with your folks, and put in some 'graft', as said, pounding shoe leather, getting away from the computer screen...

Might do Jack Schitt to help you find a bike; BUT 'visible' effort to your folks, let them see you doing EVERYTHING you can to help your self; chances are, you put in the leg work, do all YOU can to improve your chances and luck will come your way...... often in the form of a Parent putting thier hand in thier pocket to help lift you into that 'easier' segment of the market.

Just DONT wine, or moan or bitch, because that NEVER makes people WANT to help you.

You have the money; there ARE bikes out there; you WILL get one; all you have to do is take your time and dont rush into buying a heap; take your time and get as much as you can for your money.

Not necessarily ,at all!

I've waited a fair few months and picked up a Yamaha YBR125 08 plate for a £1000 and it's in very good condition. You have to show patience, have your money ready and go out and view. Otherwise you won't get what you want. Whether you think a £1000 is worth it is irrelevant, a grand is what people are getting.

Use Gumtree. I've noticed quite a few 125s up north but just be on your guard and watch out for Cat Cs or Ds. If it sounds too good for the price then it probably is.
