just so ya know, just because it sparks nicely outside of the barrel doesn't mean it does win its inside the barrel Razz

Does the bike start up at all now or not?
Iif you think sparking isn't the problem, id try dropping a small amount of fuel down the plug hole and then try firing it up. If it fires, its a fuelling issue, if it doesn't its either a sparking or compression issue.

Best of luck with it, let me know how you get on Smile

Try that, if it doesnt start fit a new spark plug.

Ive tried putting a small amount of fuel into the spark plug hole but that isnt helping it too fire also ive just put in a new spark plug and still not getting anywhere it makes the usual chugging noise when it tries to start but it just wont fire

Sounds like the auto choke has failed (common problem) try blocking the air intake with your hand, if it starts the choke is at fault. I would recommend replacing it with a manual choke.

If it was the choke, it would start with fuel down the plug hole.

The fact its not firing despite petrol in the barrel, means more than likely itll be sparking or compression.

You say you've got a nice spark, but take the plug cap off the HT lead, cut 10mm back (off the HT lead) and then re screw the cap back in to the fresh wire. Do this for the cdi/coil end aswell.

If that doesn't work, check the output of your stator (if you have a multi-meter) and see what thats kicking out when you're cranking it over.

N remember, keep the battery charged whilst your working on the bike, a less than full battery won't help with starting Smile

good luck Smile

Why did you buy a new carb?

Properly strip and clean your current carb with carb cleaner and compressed air (if you dont have an air compresser then your can do it with air in a can).

Clean through all the jets and orifices in the carb properly and make sure the float is moving and doesn't have any holes in it.

So you dont think it's getting fuel? If so try starting it, and then open the float bowl drain screw on the carb. If no fuel comes out, then there is a fuel supply issue. It could be either the fuel filter is blocked, or the vacumn tap isnt working.

don't get how it can still be a fueling issue when it wont even fire with petrol directly down the plug hole, so i don't know why your suggesting more fuel problems/solutions :S

as above has said, if the spark your measuring truely is as strong as you say, it'll be compression. Check the compression, if you can, if not, take a look at the barrel, piston and ofcourse, rings.

good luck!

In future, please post a new thread rather then respond to a 10 month old one.

In order for a two stroke (I presume its 2t) engine to run it requires a few things:

1) Fuel
2) 2T Oil
3) Air
4) Spark
5) Compression

With all of those in the right quantities the engine will run. One of these things is not right and you need to work out which one.

Firstly does the engine spark? Test it by taking the spark plug out, connecting the HT lead, holding the spark plug against a metal part of the bike thats grounded (engine is usually best) and get a friend to crank it over. If it sparks then thats one thing down. Change the spark plug anyway as it may be breaking down under compression.

Secondly, what reading did you get from the compression test? Try and get a leak down test performed as this gives you a better idea of engine compression.

Third, get the carb ultrasonically cleaned.

Fourth, test/replace the CDI and Coil.

Let us know how it goes.
