Just opened pack of brake pads (Ferodo organic) and the material in the holes in the back plate is crumbly. It just scrapes out. How vital to the forces involved in braking is the material in these holes?

I thought they'd be as hard as the pad themselves if they're baked and pressed.

Help me before I chuck em. I've put one side on already without noticing.

My Ferodo pads were the same.I have never had any issues with any pads from them before so I fitted them to my Exup1000 and they have been fine for over 800 miles,bedding in nice and quickly.

These have got made in italy on them, and they were from M&P.

On closer inspection, the front of the pad has an area that is also soft as shit.

I've emailed M&P about it because I'm not fitting these. Full set front and back cost me 55 quid. I'm not in a rush because my bike's off the road for a paint job so I was just finishing up servicing the entire braking system. I'll get the ones out that I've fitted and inspect them also.

I've had them sitting in the house for two months but I've only just opened them. Will this be a problem for refund/replacement?
