Doing my test on Wed!!!

If all goes well then will be looking for a new bike, and I came across this:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/1996-suzuki-gs500ev-12-months-mot/94647894#gallery-item-full-3

It's like 15 mins from my extended families house where i will be soon.

Are GS500's worth a look you think?

I was originally looking for a GPZ500s but haven't seen any in my budget for a while.

Looks ideal for a first big bike.

And you should be able to shift it in 6/12 months time for the same money Wink

I bet that bike is sold already, for £550 with 12 months MOT I'd say it's a bargain unless it's falling to bits.

Edit* Looking closer at the photo I can see the chain and exhaust pipes are an interesting shade of brown, but replacing a chain & sprockets isn't the end of the world. Maybe the bike has been ignored by other buyers because it looks too scruffy.

I called him and it's still available.

I don't really know about buying bikes so what things should I look out for, that if I see will mean "Walk away!"

For around £500 I'm not expecting it to be perfect.

Spoke to him again.

He said he only has the V5 slip and 1 set of keys.

Is this a bad sign?

Not really, but when somebody only has a single key for the bike you have to wonder what happened to the other two keys.

Most likely the bike has been through several owners but it's all par for the course when you're buying a cheap bike. I would want to see the last MOT certificate though; he says it is MOT'd for 12 months so I'd want to see the certificate as proof. Nobody throws away an MOT certificate just a couple of weeks after it was done.

Take a good look at the bike; ignore the shiny bits and try to notice all the rusty bits.
