Im looking for an old cruiser to buy and restore. However I cant seen to find any site that sells bikes like these. I've found a few salvage sites but are as good as useless . Any suggestions on where I could find a bike like this. Many thanks.

Ebay is really the main option. They may occasionally come up on gumtree and such like. Swapz can sometimes be ok.

This is some good advice if your new to bikes:

Personally I dont understand the question; there are simply hundreds upon hundreds of 'Project-Bikes' out there, on e-bay, Gum-Tree, Auto-Trader & in the variouse bike forum's 'For Sale' sections.

So I suspect it's NOT a question of NOT being able to FIND a project base, but find a project base that costs peanuts....

And if you are hoping to snag a 'Cheap-Harley'.... well, good luck!

There are bikes out there; they just aren't 'Cheap'.

Starting a 'project' though, cheap is probably not much of an issue. Usually costs a lot more to build a 'custom' than buy a 'good' working, road worthy bike; and trying to save a few quid on the 'base' is often false economy; sure seems stupid to buy a bike with a full compliment of indicators and shiny bits when you are probably going to throw half of them away and fit ones to your own taste, but bikes missing more critical bits can be a real struggle to fix, and even JUST having an OE indicator so you can see where the bracket is and where the wiring goes can be a boon.

Its true that 'projects' or spares/repair offers can be an absolute money pit, it all depends on your facilities, knowlege, enthusiasm and most of all time. I can buy a £400 - £600 S/R, rebuild it, MOT and tax for usually not much more than £200. BUT, if I factor in my time it will be completely non cost effective. As my ex-employers chose to offer me early retirement and my time is largely paid for by (hard earned) pensions I can largely discount my time. Most people cannot. Working at weekends and the odd evening means months, or even years before you have anything like a finished article.
It all depends on what you mean by a cruiser. Some old rat of a GS Suzuki with a little tank and big seat can be had cheaply. ANY type of Harley will cost eye watering amounts. Inbetween are all the Jap Harleyalikes. Up to you, but you take on something like this at your own risk (financial and social). I actually encourage anyone to have a go, its where I usually source most of my stock when the dream turns to reallity.
