Yay, had my first off today on the way home from work, 4 months into riding and it was in snow so only going slowly which was lucky I guess.

Turned corner back end went, so did I, lay in the slush....nice.

It was the first corner coming from work aswell lol.

Me : Bike landed on my leg, smacked my arm on floor, job done.

Bike : Wing mirror, foot peg and clutch lever all a bit bent, nothing to cry about.

All in all not a bad one I think. At least its happened now eh and I bet I aint the only one today.

Just thought Id share with the group Very Happy

Happened to me too! I feel so stupid for not just leaving the bike at work and getting a bus home. Was already going quite slow and had to stop at a mini roundabout. Next thing I know, the bike is down on its right side an I am stuck underneath it.

Luckily a few guys stopped and helped me pick the bike up and move it off the road - so grateful for that since I'd never have managed on my own. A woman nearby came to offer me space in her garage to store it and another guy gave me a lift home. Really cheered me up! Very Happy

It started right up once we had it upright and got it into the garage. Damage doesn't seem too bad - smashed indicators but also a crash bung snapped off and took a bit of the fairing with it. Looking for black 2004 CBR600F4i right hand fairings...anyone got any ideas of where to start? Lots of Chinese sets for £400-ish on eBay which is slightly out of my price range.

My plan is to go look at the bike when the snow is gone and get it back to mine and then probably take it to the workshop in Cannock to get them to fix it up. Dunno how much it will all cost but I doubt I could do it myself - the biggest job I've been able to do for myself so far is adjusting the chain.

Feeling a bit sad because I really fucking love that bike and if I've fucked it up beyond my financial capacity to repair it, I'll be gutted. Sad

@allotriophagy
Genuine Honda sidepanel is about £300 iirc @ Dave Silvers. Proper Honda indicators are about £35 each.

Why take it to a garage? Nothing there that shouldn't be easily fixable yourself. I found that because my crashbung got shaved down / melted by the road I had to use a hacksaw and stanley knife to cut away some of the nylon so I could get a socket on the bolt. If it's snapped off, is there enough stud left sticking out to get some molegrips on it and wind it out?

I made my busted panel useable by getting a cheap fibreglass kit from Halfords and doing a repair on teh backside of the panel. Wasn't pretty but was ok. Second hand panels do pop up on ebay regularly, getting one in the right colour and in good condition can be tricky though. Keep an eye out! If you're going to be riding in winter, I'd fix the damaged panel and use that, and then get a new one when the weather clears up.

Atleast you got stuck under the bike, you'll likely have saved the wing mirror and brake lever. Those are rather pricey too!

With the weather like this, don't even touch the front brake! Keep it slow and brake gently and far in advance of needing to stop.

Ah I hate when bad weather catches you out at work. I remember a few weeks ago I away at work and I was just about to get on my bike to go home, the heavens opened and it started pissing down with rain, the heaviest i've seen in a long time. Good fun Laughing

I don't play to bring my bike out again until the snow has all melted and everything - I don't want to risk dropping it or coming off. Nevermind eh? Wink

Sounds like you had a pretty minor off, and lets face it, you could of landed on something harder than snow Laughing Just don't let it dent your confience. Smile

Wow, Feel bad for folks who damged themself/there bikes today.

Even with the massive amount of snow, still seeing pizza boys on there bikes! is that even legal?

Gave snow riding a shot, pretty fun just pissing about but as soon as things get over 15 mph it just gets too unstable.

Got to make the jorney home tomorrow, what a fun time that shall be.

Take care, scootaloo

This might sounds daft to a thread of off's by new riders, but in my first winter I naively took the bike to work but just went slow, it's hard and bloody cold but the experience is amazing.

You get to see how your bike handles under varying conditions and I promise, once you've handled it thru sleet and snow you can handle it far better on the dry sunny days - pushing yourself and your bikes to its limits is for many what biking is all about. This is a class chance. Thumbs Up

That first winter travelling through town in sleeted street with the rear spinning up and just knowing it'd hit the deck before long was very insightful, there was haulage truck behind me that kept about 10foot of my back tyre and probably just waited so he could laugh once I went down but surpisingly, despite the bike fishtailing along for 50 yards, I actually stayed on and got to work fine.

P.S, paddling it with your feet for balance is not a problem.

I've managed 3 winters on a bike fella, how long you been riding, and how many years were in snowy conditions?

Edit; I should add, I've only dropped it once throughout the 3 winters.

I've dropped/crashed mine more through stupidity in sunny weather - but i'm not ashamed or embarrased about it.
