I think the time has come for me to lay this to rest, if only to stop the ghouls and hangers on gaining their pound of flesh. My reasons for avoiding speculation around Steve's death were simple; a google search for "Steve Love Svengalie" and similar were bringing this thread up on the front page, and I didn't want his family or friends to see some of the nonsense that was being posted here. I won't go into intricate detail, but just to give those who apparently need to know, here's a run down....

He split with his wife in late 2010.

He did have two kids and never, ever forget that they were his number one priority post split.

He was one of the kindest and gentlest blokes that you could meet; he'd done well for himself but he never, ever flaunted that. (casually taking me offroading in Spain at 2 days notice on a whim was a typical example of how he operated. He was astonished that I insisted that I'd be buying him a few beers while we were out there ffs.)

I unexpectedly had a drink with him on Thursday afternoon, and I could tell he was down. I invited him to crash at mine and Marie's place that evening as he had done many times in the past but got no response.

I stupidly thought that he'd disappeared back off up North. I was wrong. In my defence he had a habit of doing things spontaneously and so I thought nothing of it.

It does look like he took his own life, and don't doubt I've been struggling with this for the last couple of days. And i really wish I could have done more.

Can we lay this to bed now please? Karma

This is really sad. I follow both Sven and M13, they have a great knack at what they do. I totally get the therapy of riding and talking too ourselves in our helmets (and others by vlogging), but i cant help thinking that, while motorcycling is probably one of the best therapies around, those of us that have that need must not solely rely on motorcycling, and the internet to communicate and exorcise our thoughts, feelings, demons etc. When we are feeling severely depressed our ability to problem solve is reduced greatly. We begin to think in black and white and straight lines. Think of it like target fixation, speeding down the motorway. There are slip roads that can take us to a roads and b roads but in our minds these have been travelled before, or not worth travelling, useless. We only have one option, one destination, and as we get more motivated, we burn out the brakes and cant stop. I hope Sven knew how liked he was by us all and he will have known how loved he was by his family and close friends.
Rest in Peace Svengalie.

Sorry IMonster I posted my reply before I had chance to read yours. I work in Mental Health and unfortunately know a bit more than I would like to about depression. He seemed like he was a great bloke. I'm genuinely sorry.

This news is so sad. Sven and M13's vids are what inspired me to get my licence after knocking about on a CBT for ages. Depression is a terrible thing, those that have not been through it will not understand, it's not something that can be cured by money. I feel a little bit sick with guilt for not being able to help. I knew he was going through rough times, but in his videos he always seemed to be upbeat. At least the pain has gone for him now. I offer my condolences to his kids and close friends, I cannot bear to imagine what they are going through right now.

Reluctant to bring it off the topic of remembering Sven, but that's the same with air crashes. One breath of the toxic smoke can kill someone within seconds.

If it was indeed suicide, which appears possible, then at least he is at peace and no longer in the world he came to find so tormenting.

I cannot imagine how bad a place, mentally and emotionally, someone must be to consider suicide. Whilst the loss of someone is never good, some consolation is that he is no longer suffering the emotional pain that he must have been experiencing.

This thread makes me lose what little respect i have for BCF and fully agree with iMonster.

I watched quite a few of Sven's videos and loved the one where he tried to get off with a ticket for riding in a cycle lane. Laughed for a great long while at that one!

RIP Steven Love.

In future it might be a good idea to have a RIP/condolences only thread, and then another thread for speculation/debate.

Man, I can't believe it - I wish it wasn't true Crying or Very sad

What a guy... Even though I never got the chance to meet him, It's easy for anyone who's ever watched any of his videos to see what a great guy he was.
His videos were always a great source of entertainment and his essence was infectious as I'm sure everyone else agrees otherwise he wouldn't have such a large, dedicated fan base and pressence within the vlog & biking community.

But aside from that, he was also a dedicated father which makes it even more tragic.

I'm at a loss really, at first I thought it was somebody on youtube being an idiot and spreading lies but then I researched and realised that it was indeed true...

30 years old is no age to die.

My thoughts & condolences are to his friends, family and to all the fellow riders out there.

Sven's videos over the last few years have actually inspired me & have convinced me to get back into mx and trail riding again and this year I'm intending on getting myself a new pair of wheels and a camera as well to join the vlog community - I'd like to think that I can keep a little bit of Sven's spirit alive in doing so.

To sven

The more I hear about this, the less inclined I am to believe it was a suicide. I can't claim to know Sven as much as his friends, but I have seen all his vids and exchanged messages a few times. Steve liked to do things on a whim. He was an eccentric fella. It seems to me that he has done something in perhaps drunken anger. Maybe burning some old things that have reminded him about his ex. It smacks me in the face as a tragic accident, rather than a deliberate act of suicide. People will naturally gravitate to that conclusion because of the rough time he has had of late, but I differ on that.

You can call me foolish, but I'm going to believe that is the result of a tragic accident as opposed to an overwhelming desire to end one's existence. This will not bring Sven back, nor will it ease the pain for his family and close friends. It just seems the more logical answer.

Sad to hear this, most on the forum have probably looked at a few of his vids, I for one only subscribed about a week or two ago.

Hope that the family are coping ok, rip dude.

Sad to hear of this, because of the recent snow I was showing my wife his snow-riding videos and we were having a chuckle at his antics.
He came across as a nice guy, our thoughts are with his family & friends.
