Was supposed to sit my Mod 2 yesterday.

Got to the test centre, about to start, got mic'ed up and went out to the bike. I started the show me-tell me part, then the instructor askes me to stop and says there is a bit of a problem.

Because my tax disc is out of date I can't sit the test....

I explained that it only run out last week, but that the tax has been paid - just that I didn't have the new disc yet.

Had to forefit the test AND MY £75!!! Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad

Sooooo pissed off, drove down the A10 just swearing at the top of my lungs lol.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could pull 80 quid out of thin air (or a fat account) but had to sell my pedal bike just to get the money for yesterdays test.

Ok I should have taxed it early, but I thought if it IS taxed why is it such a problem that I don't have a piece of paper when it can be checked on the system? Was this law made when they didn't have computers?

p.s. If anyone wants to donate money to a good cause...

Laughing

Not really, your bike needs to be roadworthy.

No it doesn't Laughing Friends used my CBR125 with no fairings, wires hanging everywhere, no front right indicator and a hole in the exhaust.

Passed like a boss Laughing

To the OP, my bike is still showing a tax disc from 2007 Laughing

A long time before computers. And it is an offence to not be displaying the tax disk, although there is now an exemption for 5 days if you are waiting for it to be delivered AND you applied for it before the end of the month the previous one expired in.

All the best

It depends on the examiner. Apparently my old school had had issues with my examiner sending people away because the school had resprayed their bikes and not badged them up so he didn't know whether it had enough BHP to be used for a DAS test.

The chain on my bike (the one the school had lent me) was a bit iffy so, when he found out who the examiner was, my instructor gave me his bike to do the test on.

It's a real piss take when they do this.

I understand that the bike has to be road worthy (but truthfully how is not having a tax disc negatively gonna affect the bike?) but if they allowed you to get the next test at half price at least it wouldn't be seen as such a money making scam.

At least it's good to know that I'm not alone in this haha

I don't even bother keeping a tax disc on mine or on the car for that matter. However I'm pretty sure it is a legal requirement to display the disc which is why he would have had to send you away. I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

While I'm not saying I personally would sit a bike test in trainers, I would like to know when laws came in that said it was illegal to do so....

It's not a law, it's the DSA deciding off of their own back to accept liability for candidates' injuries.

Of course, that's not what they meant to do, or how they phrase it, but sooner or later some ambulance chaser or the HSE are going to give them a short, expensive lesson in why you shouldn't set yourself up as an arbiter of what counts as protective equipment or not.

I don't know if they make it a condition of booking the tests. If not, then feel free to get your money back. If they do, plead, urgh, I dunno, Article 14 of the ECHR - "is it because I is a chav?"

Anyway, OP, give over, it's an offence to not display a tax disc, this is hardly a secret, and you've got no-one else to blame. Take some responsibility for yourself. Also, try not to be so poor, I have the urge to start hucking rocks at you.

What must make it even more gutting is that someone was waiting on the other side of the test with Cash money to buy your bike off you.

Only a complete tool wouldn't stop at the Post Office on the way to the test to get a tax disc. You coulda sent one of them back or just put up with having paid £30 for 1 years tax.

Did you not read the part when the OP said he had to sell his push bike to get the money for the test?

Yep, so he coulda claimed the money back off one of the tax discs then. It's only 1 tank of fuels worth afterall.

Sounds like a bit of a dick of an Examiner, but at the same time, if you give them an excuse to do this kind of stuff, you really have nobody else to blame when they go ahead and do it.

A moments sensible thought would make one consider that an invalid tax disc could be an issue if the examiner was picky about it, and steps could then be taken to ensure that it's valid at the time of test.

Nevermind though eh, lesson learnt (expensively) and next time I'm sure you'll double check that your bike and all paperwork is perfect order.

I'm always a little bemused by this type of response. It's a basic requirement for bikes to have current Tax, an MOT (if applicable) and insurance. I taught advanced driving for several years and wouldn't have taken anyone out who was lacking one of these basics, so I don't understand why you think the examiner was being a "dick".

The OP is the "dick" for not ensuring his bike was ready for the test.

So where should he get the money from for another tax disc?
