If you mean the drums then you trying playing a drum kit on an iphone in time!!. lol

If you mean the guitar, it's called "syncopation" and adds feeling to the piece.

I've listened to his other stuff and although not as bad, he can consistently play notes, but not in time. He needs to practise with a metronome or something. He's managing to play the notes, but just not in time with the music.

He can't play on or off the beat, he's just playing the notes along with the music as best he can, a little out of time or a lot in some cases.
