Wouldn't it have been smarter to ask this question BEFORE you bought the bike?

Bit accademic now; but would NOT be in the top ten 'best' reccomended Learner-Bikes.

Its a trail bike for starters; pro's and cons to them with regard to how 'nimble' they are for slow speed maneuvers, but knobbly tyres aren't doing you many favours or inspiring confidence; and ramping insurance premiums; as is the oft unrestricted two stroke engine, which isn't as easily managed as a 4-stroke, restricted being wooly down low, and not having the top end it ought to; de-restricted and learner-ILlegal, and even LESS newbie freindly, while in either case, ALSO ramping insurance price, not delivering great fuel ecconomy, and generally being a high-maintenance and expensive motor to keep in good fettle...

I could carry on, and sorry not to be offering the response you want which was "Yeah! Great, COOL! Marvelouse! Spot on Bud, whish I could have one of them".... but I wont.

Its a bike; it's not the most useful LL125 out there; but it will 'do'. Will make some stuff a tad harder for you, but if it works, don't knock it. 'Prillias don't have a great rep for reliability, so don't thrash it, and look after it properly, at least till you have got your tests out the way.... if it helps you get them, gets you about in the mean-time, provides a few grins, doesn't cost an arm and a leg to keep in service, doesn't cause you a nervous breakdown in breakdowns and hassle, and you manage not to kill yourself on it....

It'll have been a 'good bike' Laughing

Bloody hell, don't encourage the guy at all! Wink

Nothing wrong with Aprilias, keep their value well. Lots about.

The 125 motor is better (more reliable) than the 50cc, even if it does go wrong there's lots of help out there and plenty of agents to service/repair.

Comparatively high riding position, good for traffic, the knobbly tyres can make it a bit uncomfortable on the road, but they're very good (as is the bike) for mucky bits.

Have fun!

i didnt buy this bike i inherited it from my dad, and it a sx not a rx my mistake :p

Inherited it? So your Dad's dead then?

Hmmm My Dad, or an Aprillia..... hmm...... tough call..... but I THINK provided there was some petroil still in the tank, I'd have to go for the 'prilla as being the more 'useful' Wink

Be careful what you say Mike, for all you know it could be a touchy subject with this guy...his dad could in fact be dead... Neutral

A 2 stroke isn't exactly what I'd call "learner friendly"

They have a step in the power if they are derestricted...which gives a boost. Its called the power band.

I've had the RS, unsure if its the same motor, its fairly reliable...but will cost you a small fortune to keep it running and repair it when it does eventually go bang.

i had the sx125 and they are the same engine as the rs's. found it a piece of piss to ride, never bothered de-restricting it, swapped it for a nsr250. good bikes, just keep an eye on the speedo sensor as mine died after first service as well as a fork seal, took em ages to get the parts in under warranty by which time i had covered 6k miles.
