He has a data allowance ...

Tethering shouldn't be a problem, but some companies don't like counting it as data usage on the phone, or exclude it from their allowed application of the data and may charge him to do so.

I think you are supposed to pay extra for iPhone tethering. Do what I do, jailbreak it and tether for nothing.

Jailbreak the iPhone, install MiWi.

Yes, there's an app for it, if you want to pay about £15 a month tethering charge to the phone provider.

I've actually got a 100% legit tethering from the App Store. It's called "Tether" but was only live for a matter of hours before Apple pulled it. God knows why they approved it as it makes absolutely no attempt to hide its purpose.

Even though I've never used it, it's there should I ever upgrade to a newer, unjailbreakable phone.

Not a problem when using a HTC to connect to my laptop or tablet... hell even O2 allow you to do it.

Just connect the phone via usb and it comes up with a tethering option....

Still maybe Apple don't want people to do it.... Laughing

Apple allow it, it's the phone companies that put a high price on the service that makes it shite.

So if you are able to do it..... Why is the OP even asking the question...

From the OP's post. It sounds like its not possible without a app or such.....

Using the "official" tethering incurs an extra charge (something like £5 for 500mb a month then £1 a Mb after that), depending on provider. Jailbreaking and using an app bypasses that.
