found a nice exhaust for my bike on ebay, comes out around £450 for the full system, but it says 'they're not responsible for the taxes and charges that may apply when shipped internationally'

What does this mean? I've had a look online for some information and found out about import vat, excise and import duty or w/e, but no concrete costs, just things like 'if the value is more than £125 you MAY be charged'

Anyone got any ideas what fees i could face? Anyone bought from the US before?

Thanks

- Duty: £20.87
- VAT: £117.00
Total import duty & taxes due: £137.87
Total landed cost: £702.01

thats £450 including shipping, the actual exhaust comes out at £295.20 ($465.00) with £53.96 shipping fee ($85.00)

why is the customs value so high?

sorry for the newbie questions, never done this before

Plus Parcel Force will want an extra £8 or £13.50 depending if its 'International Express' mail or not for the pleasure of paying the duty on your behalf and then sending you a letter to tell you as much.

And then you have to go and pick it up yourself from the depot.

Customs in my experience have normally been pretty quick and the longest I've had to wait was a fortnight from when my graphics card arrived in Britain. It may be quicker now but prepare yourself for a wait.

You can pay for it on the internet now and then pick your choice of day for delivery (apart from a Saturday, its an extra £13.50 for that, ripping twats)
